Well, I survived, but Gods, it hurts. I don't think I've ever been so badly injured. It looks like everyone else survived, as well, fortunately, and Amber seems to have carried the day. Hooray.
Leaving only the problem of Brand and this Jewel of Judgement thing. He was shot and fell into this Abyss thing which, from the reactions of everyone else is a thing which, once you're in you never leave. He had the jewel with him, which was apparently bad because we needed it to fend off the coming storm. But Fiona called in her daughter - Crystal - with another gem, magical I suppose, and together we fended off the Storm. I really wish I had enough of a clue as to what this all means or who these people are to feel anything whatsoever about it. As it is, I'm just along for the ride.
I was under the impression these Amberites were subtle and untrusting, but when Corwin's son turned up with a message from the King of Chaos claiming this war was all done without his permission or knowledge, and he's really sorry, can we all be friends now, everyone just seemed to go along with it! Even if Merlin isn't in on it, he's being used a dupe. It appears the concept of the scapegoat or even of the lie just hasn't made it to Amber.
And now a huge funeral procession is coming. The general opinion seems to be that it is Oberon's. My grandfather's. To be honest, I just don't care. I never even knew of him until a few days ago, and never met him, so I'm supposed to sorry he's dead now? No. If anyone is expecting any public displays of grief from me, then they're going to be sadly disappointed.
Looking at the above, the thought occurs that I'm not really a very nice person any more. I suppose my life on Timashkurabad tore all that away. But that, too, is something I just don't care about.
I continue to wonder why mother did have me raised on Timashkurabad like she did? Did she just want me to be a nice polite court lady? Some chance of that now. Or was there some other reason?
