The Blood Alley Hospice

The worst hospital in Amber City, in the worst part of the city, close to the docks. Its staff consisted of:

• Its chief, 'Dr' Estefan, a fat, dissipated drunkard.
• About seven nurses, all opinionated and unpaid crones who let patients die to steal their belongings and sell them to live.
• Three other 'doctors' who are in fact failed medical students. Only one, the female 'Dr' Yathley has any enthusiasm or idealism left.

It has about 400 patients in space adequate for 200. The whole place is filthy. And its coffers, out of which the doctors are paid and which come from an old bequest, are nearly dry.

All the staff were initially suspicious of Benvolio, and who can blame them?

He spent some time getting the 'lay of the land' then with the help of Martin (and through him the Pattern) refilled the hospital's coffers, got the nurses paid (so they can actually start caring for their patients and not just killing them to live) and the place cleaned up.

Then Dr Estefan ran off with as much of the new cash as he can get his hands on. Benvolio lets him go - it's a small price to pay to see the back of him. Dr Yathley was promoted and became the new chief of the hospital.

Once the Hospice is mostly cleaned and sorted out Benvolio then started doing actual medical work in the ER of the place...
