There are number of ideas for spin-off from Nine Princes in Moscow that I have had. They are settings which are more like Nine Princes in Moscow than Amber itself, particularly in that the environment separating worlds or whatever is an environment in its own right. I don't think they are worth fleshing out to the same level of detail as Nine Princes in Moscow as they are not too different from it, but they are definitely worth mentioning, which is what this page is for. The spin-offs include:

  • Nine Princes in Arabia. Rather than clearings in a forest, the 'shadows' here are oases in a vast Desert, across which only the members of the Royal Family of Arabia can safely navigate. The Desert has dangers of its own, including Djinn, desert spirits, mirages, sandstorms, ruined cities and so on. Or perhaps the royal family of Arabia are the children of the founder of the realm, who first mastered the Desert, and a Djinn, giving them their great powers. The equivalent of Chaosites are Crusaders, coming across the Desert to conquer Arabia and destroy its Royal Family.
  • Nine Princes at Sea. Here the 'shadows' are islands in an endless sea, perhaps with a Polynesian flavour, with the Royal Family ruling by their mastery of ocean-going navigation. The Ocean has many dangers of its own, including the weather and hostile creatures, including perhaps underwater races of various kinds. Instead of Chaosites there are incursions of a new power from far across the Ocean, perhaps 'Europeans', or perhaps something - the Kraken - waking under the sea.
  • Nine Princes in Abyssia. Perhaps related to Nine Princes at Sea, this is a world of the deep, dark sea, where people and cities huddle around 'black smokers' in the ocean depths. These oases of life in the deep are the equivalent of shadows, with the lightless underwater seabed being the equivalent of the Forest in Nine Princes in Moscow.
  • Nine Princes on the Ice. In this setting everything takes place on a vast ice-cap, perhaps where the sun hangs forever on the horizon, or where there is endless night, or endless day. In this setting the 'shadows' are warm spots on the vast ice cap where life can thrive. Things live out on the ice, and perhaps the equivalent of Chaosites are one of them, a race of sophont polar bears not unlike those from the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy.
  • Nine Princes in Space. A science-fantasy setting where 'shadows' are entire planets, separated by the depths of space. The player characters are members of the next evolutionary step of Mankind, able to navigate the universe at faster-than-light speeds by the power of their minds, carrying others with them as they go. In addition to the 'normal' dangers of space, there is another enemy out there, a huge old empire traveling the stars in vast slower-than-light world-ships.
