The Vale of Garnath

"By noon we were crossing the valley that paralleled the seacoast. The Forest of Arden was to the north and our left. Amber lay directly ahead. The breezes were cool and filled with the odours of earth and its sweet growing things."

'Nine Princes in Amber', Chapter VII

The Vale of Garnath is a wide and shallow valley perhaps a hundred miles long and two dozen miles wide, stretching from close by Amber southwards parallel to the coast. The river Oisen traces a twisting course through the Vale to the sea. A pass leads from Forest Arden to the Valk over the mountains to the west of Kolvir, about thirty-five miles inland from it. It is through the Vale of Garnath that the Black Road led from Amber to Chaos.

The Vale seems to have fully recovered from the effects of the Black Road, and being burned by Julian during the invasion of Amber by Bleys and Corwin, with only occasional Chaos skeletons and reports of ghosts to disturb its peace. With the expansion of Amber's population in recent decades it has been turned into farmland and now supports a fairly large population.
