FEBRUARY 14TH

The London Knights storm the Canary Wharf tower. They disappear inside, and are not seen again until August.


FEBRUARY 15TH

The London Knights contact STOP and tell them their suspicions about Canary Wharf were a false alarm.

The female sniper captured by the London Knights in December escapes from prison and is not seen again.


FEBRUARY 17TH

Moriz Ioakinovitch Rugatov, a Russian cosmonaut, is crippled by radiation in a solar flare while posted to the Mir space station. He is shipped back to Earth for care.


FEBRUARY 18TH

The badly decomposed body of Dr Victor Wilcox is pulled from the Thames. He was a noted oceanographer who had become homeless after suffering a mental breakdown.

A peace plan for Afghanistan is threatened by the emergence of the Taliban militia.


FEBRUARY 21ST

The USA rescues the economy of Mexico with a $20 billion aid program.


FEBRUARY 22ND

The joint Anglo-Irish agreement on the future of Northern Ireland is published.


FEBRUARY 26TH

Nick Leeson, the Barings Bank trader largely responsible for its collapse, is arrested in Frankfurt.


FEBRUARY 28TH

A car bomb in Kurdish north Iraq kills 54.


FEBRUARY 28TH

The last UN peacekeepers leave Somalia.


MARCH 1ST

Unexpectedly, a female Somali warlord, a superhuman calling herself the Amazon takes over the whole of Somalia, aided by a group of other superhumans she has recruited. She begins to rebuild the country. The remaining other Somali warlords are tried for their actions; some are executed, others are given posts in the new government.


MARCH 2ND

The US Senate rejects a balanced-budget amendment to the constitution.


MARCH 5TH

A female superhuman calling herself Kate Bodkin appears in London when she stops an armed bank robbery. She leaves the scene before she can be questioned.


MARCH 6TH

Spanish peseta and Portuguese escudo devalued after emergency ERM re-alignment.


MARCH 8TH

The UK government agrees to direct meetings between ministers and Sinn Fein.


MARCH 14TH

The Russian Mir space station greets its first American visitors.


MARCH 17TH

President Clinton urges IRA to relinquish arms.


MARCH 20TH

A nerve gas attack in the Tokyo underground kills eight people and injures thousands. The Japanese superhumans Rising Sun and Battletank assist in the clear-up. Investigation shows that the Aum Shinrikyo ('Supreme Truth') cult is to blame for the attack, as well as an earlier attack at a mountain resort.


MARCH 24TH

Routine army patrols in Northern Ireland to end.


MARCH 31ST

An Israeli helicopter attack kills the leader of Hizbollah.

Selena, the popular Spanish-language singer, is slain in Texas.


APRIL 6TH

In Somalia, one of the Amazon's superhuman followers, a man calling himself Ayyar, turns against her, denouncing her to the Somali people. He leaves Somalia.

The Conservatives fail to gain control of any local authority in Scottish local elections.


APRIL 10TH

A female superhuman calling herself Mestnusen, whose costume has a decidedly ancient-Egyptian style, appears in the British Museum, where she stops a raid be a team of Demon operatives.


APRIL 14TH

The U.N. Council votes to ease sanctions on Iraq.


APRIL 19TH

One hundred and sixty eight people, including children in a day care centre, are killed as a terrorist's car bomb blows up the block-long Oklahoma City federal building. The Guardians assist in the rescue operations.

A nerve gas attack occurs in an underground station in Yokohama.


APRIL 20TH

'Monecy for questions' scandal causes two Conservative MPs to be suspended.


APRIL 21ST

Following an investigation into the Oklahoma bombing, Timothy McVeigh, 27, a US Army veteran, is arrested by the Guardians as a suspect.


APRIL 22ND

The US authorities seek a second suspect in the Oklahoma bombing. They link right-wing paramilitary groups to the bombing. The Guardians raid several groups in Oklahoma and the surrounding states, in one case having to fight a paramilitary superhuman associated with one of the groups.

A massacre in Rwanda leads to a death toll of two thousand.


APRIL 23RD

First round of French presidential elections.


APRIL 24TH

Eight Conservative rebels have the party whip restored to them.


MAY 2ND

The shapeshifting superhero Mirov appears for the first time in Moscow.


MAY 4TH

A super-strong female superhuman calling herself Scarlet appears in London where she stops a Viper raid on Colmar Technologies.

The Conservatives lose over 2000 seats in English and Welsh local elections.

The New Britain Party gains influence in the poorer areas of London and other cities in the UK.


MAY 7TH

Second round of French presidential elections.


MAY 11TH

Nolan Committee on Standards in Public Life publishes its first report.


MAY 17TH

New French President (Jacques Chriac) and Prime Minister (Alain Juppe) are inaugurated. The French superhuman Fleur de Lis foils an assassination attempt at the inauguration ceremony.


MAY 18TH

The Japanese police, assisted by the Japanese superhumans Rising Sun and Battletank, seize the Aum Shinrikyo cult leader over the Tokyo underground nerve gas attack. They defeat two Aum Shinrikyo superhumans to do so.


JUNE 9TH

Colombia seizes a top drug-ring leader.


JUNE 12TH

The AMTEC company starts to buy small independent high-technology research, development and production companies. Colmar Technologies is one of these.


JUNE 14TH

Chechen rebels seize hundreds of hostages at a hospital at Budyonnovsk, just over the Chechen border in Russia. With them is the Chechen superhuman WarWolf, in his first appearance.


JUNE 17TH

Russian troops attack the hospital, freeing 100 of the hostages. The rebels flee into Chechnya, taking 250 hostages with them.


JUNE 19TH

European finance ministers set January 1st 1999 at the date for the inauguration of the single currency.


JUNE 20TH

A Viper raid on the University of London biology department is opposed when Kate Bodkin, Mestnusen and Scarlet, who each arrive independently. They join forces and manage to capture all of the Viper agents, handing them over to STOP before leaving together.


JUNE 22ND

The Chechen rebels release all of their hostages.

John Major resigns as leader of the Conservative party. The contest for a new leader begins. Douglas Hurd, the Foreign Secretary, also resigns, effective after the leadership contest is complete.


JUNE 24TH

Kate Bodkin, Mestnusen and Scarlet start to operate as a team to fight crime in London. They call themselves the Lost Girls.


JUNE 27TH

A U.S. space shuttle docks with Russian Mir space station for the first time.


JUNE 30TH

The Lost Girls fight Shockwave of Deathstroke after he escapes while being transported to Project Safeguard. After a long hard battle they bring him down, and his transportation continues successfully.


JULY 3RD

The Guardians root out a nest of Vampires in Amarillo, Texas.


JULY 4TH

John Major wins the leadership contest of the Conservative party. This is soon followed by a major Cabinet reshuffle.


JULY 11TH

The USA restores full diplomatic relations with Vietnam.


JULY 15TH

What sound like underground explosions begin to be heard in south London.

The Lost Girls investigate these, with no results.


JULY 18TH

The US Senate reopens the Whitewater investigation into President Clinton.


JULY 22ND

The Cambodian superhuman Black Tiger attempts to assassinate Dr Draconis. He fails.


JULY 30TH

A military accord is signed to end the fighting in Chechnya.


AUGUST 11TH

The US F.B.I. suspends four agents in an enquiry over a siege in Idaho.


AUGUST 16TH
