A relativistic kill vehicle (RKV) is a weapon system that massive impactor
travelling at a significant fraction of the speed of light to strike a target,
often a planet or similar large and immobile object. Because of sensors in the
Traveller universe being limited to the speed of light, RKVs could be extremely
effective there, were it possible to build them. This design is an experiment in
whether it is possible to create an effective RKV using the MegaTraveller
shipbuilding rules. And it would appear that it is possible to do so, even as
low as TL12 and using a 100 displacement ton hull.

The RKV shown here, if travelling at 90% of the speed of light, would impact
with a force of some 56 Teratons of TNT (56 million megatons of TNT). This would
have a major impact on any world it was to hit.

The RKV is usually launched from a jump-capable carrier vessel that will itself
have accelerated to some 17% of light speed, from which this vessel will
accelerate further.

Under Newtonian mechanics this ship has enough fuel to accelerate it to well
over the speed of light; taking relativity into account means this vessel can
achieve close to the speed of light and maintain a manoeuvring reserve in case
of need.

The ship carried no active sensors of any kind, and only a maser communication
system. It has no crew or life support and is run entirely by a specially-
designed robot brain that is integrated into the ship.
