ASHIRA'S THOUGHTS

Part 6 - Battle on the Edge of the Abyss Part 2

The Battle

When the sky riders came down over where I killed Tanishla, I wondered what they were about. I'm glad Simon did for the sky riders. Whatever they were trying to do, I suspect they'll not be doing it now. Though it'd be nice to know what they wanted.

Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to fully heal when that rabble of troops came past. Still, Aximar well, not quite shamed me into doing it, but something very close to that.

So we decided to do what we could. I felt really pretty alone when Aximar legged it over to the troops to try and turn them back to the battle, leaving me to distract the Chaosites on my own.

Gods, that was such a stupid gamble in hindsight. I've never been in a real battle like that before. I think it went to my head. Or maybe it was just one of those times where you're in so far you can't back out and have got to go in all the way. This battle is one of those times when I could really do with being able to talk. I really could have died there. Brrr.

Then the Amber unit arrived. It looks like Aximar shamed them into coming back - 'are you worthless lot going to run and let one of the Royal family die?' or something like that I suspect. Gods, I'd forgotten how good it can be to have mates you can trust, even a little, at your back in a scrap. I didn't particularly like Aximar when we met, but now, I think, we've both got a bit of respect for the other. I wonder if I can get him rewarded somehow for what he's done today? He certainly deserves it!

And if this doesn't earn me some brownie points with the other Amberites, then they can all go and sit on a spike. Well, at least I think I've got some brownie points with someone. Assuming he lives, that is. I wonder who in all the hells House Rikatsu are, anyway?

I can see that unit of the Amber forces ending up as "Princess Ashira's Own Regiment."! Gods, that would be embarrassing! So much for keeping a low profile.

Gods, I need a drink. Maybe when all this is over.

Didn't like that ... well, I assume it must have been magic ... that paralysed me there, when we attacked the Chaos lines. That was horrible, particularly in the middle of a battle. I nearly panicked, and I don't think I can blame myself for it. I just thank the gods I was able to break whatever it was and kill the wizards responsible.

And now we're joined with another Amber unit, and aren't doing too badly now. I hope this keeps up. But Gods, oh for a drink.
