ASSORTED SHADOWS

A page of interesting shadows, mostly belonging to characters of mine, or created as part of a game I was playing in. Some of these descriptions are on other pages; in that case the name of the shadow is the link to that page. The shadows are:

AEGIRENE

The personal shadow of Prince Solon, a character I played in an AmberCon UK 1996 game.

AL-KAGHET

A shadow from the setting up of the second version of Rakhmon.

Al-Kaghet is a mainly tented society (few buildings, that is - some factories, 'mosques', the occasional palace etc.), with Arabic-type decoration, but clothes of a Victorian cut in a much wider range of colour and pattern than the Victorians. Their society is basically Victorian, with steam-powered technology (mostly hand-built - there are few factories or production lines in the shadow), but also mostly nomadic, following herds of animals which roam the deserts. The tribe/nations of the the desert do war every now and again, over the herd they follow, or land rights, or whatever. Water comes from natural wells dotted over the desert.

Al-Kaghet has eight small suns (which rise and set normally), which oscillate around each other in a complicated fashion. They are worshipped as Gods who are not to be named. It has one tiny (or far away) moon, named Temadhur. The night sky has a lots of bright stars, which swirl accross the sky. Some are nearly as bright, individually, as Temadhur.

All plants are basically grass/bamboo-like, none of which is very tall (the highest is less than man-height), and most of which is found around the wells scattered over the desert.

The landscape is smooth, with long lines of sight - there are hills and mountains, but no cliffs, gorges, rock outcroppings or the like to block lines of sight (this would be deliberate on Rakhmons part, after his confinement in Chaos for so long). The desert does vary from sandy to rocky in different places, but is all pretty flat, with no dunes of the like. The weather is always clement (though it is hot during the day and cold at night). It never rains. There are a few small, shallow seas, but no rivers.

BRETAYNE

The shadow where Absalom, a character I played in an AmberCon UK game, was raised.

Bretayne is a feudal-industrial world, with mid-Victorian England-like society, dress and technology, but without any kind of democratic government; instead the King rules absolutely. Cities are crowded, dirty and grim in the extreme (for the poor) while the countryside is inhabited by tied tenants bound to the land by harsh overlords. Workhouses exist to give the poor some form of subsistence if they have no other means of support; no-one wants to enter one of these if they can possibly avoid it. The only people not really tied to one place are travelling circuses and itinerant fire and brimstone preachers. Bretayne is lit by four small suns which oscillate around each other; there are also two moons, one large, and one tiny.

JAKHLAN

A shadow found by Arkady, in which he is god.

JAL'KATH

A shadow from the setting up of the second version of Rakhmon.

An infinite zero-G jungle, lit by tiny intense suns which float through and around it. Inhabited by the Keths, a kind of lizard-monkeys at a stone-age level of technology and with a tribal society. The foliage of the jungle is red, gold and orange with purple highlights; the floating suns are all colours. The light level and temparature varies widely depending on the local distribution of micro-suns. Ponds and lakes float within the jungle in places. Sometimes violent storms rack the place. There are occasional huge voids within the trees.

MALEKULA

The personal shadow of Tyrrel.

PURITY

REICHSHERZ
