A Timeline Of Events
This timeline is basically the same as the one on the main Amber page, but with additional information specific to the various player characters.
There is also the Secret History of the Multiverse for this game.
All events in Amber time.
- The End of the Patternfall War (0 Post-Patternfall [PPF]). The war ends with the defeat of Chaos at the edge of the Abyss. Brand and Deirdre die as they fall into the Abyss. The Unicorn selects Random as King; all the elders who are present swear loyalty to him, as does Merlin. Dworkin is seen entering Chaos driving the hearse carrying the body of Oberon. He is not seen leaving, and has not been seen since. As far as anyone can tell the Primal Pattern is somehow sealed off, and inaccessible. Following soon after Oberons funeral cortege, the elders enter the Courts. Benedict leads the forces of Amber in. The place seems deserted. All of the Houses of Chaos seem to have retreated into their closed realms, and sealed themselves in. The elders arrive at a plaza on the far side of the Courts as Dworkin is about to consign Oberons body to the Abyss. Dworkin mumbles something. Corwin speaks an eulogy, as does Random, then the body is consigned to the Abyss. Benedict sets up a huge occupying garrison in Chaos and the surrounding shadows. The prisoners who were captured at the battle by the Abyss are imprisoned in camps set up in inhospitable areas a few shadows away from the Courts.
- Between now and 12 PPF Gerard is Regent of Amber, with the assistance of Vialle, who he recruits to help him. He spends much of that time trying to keep the Golden Circle together, and deal with the large numbers of Chaos stragglers who were left behind after the war. For the first year or so of his Regency there is starvation in Amber as food shipments from outside are cut off, but this stops once Gerard re-maps the shadow paths into Amber from outside.
- 12 PPF. After Corwin and Random make Trump contact with Gerard (as far as they are concerned, right after the end of the War), most of the family of Amber return the Amber City. Fiona and Benedict do not. Random is crowned King in Amber. Gerard swears loyalty to him. After considerable study, Fiona manages to disassemble one of the smaller closed realms. It seems there could be whole worlds within the larger ones. Benedict begins to set up fortifications and the like around Chaos. He also advises on new defences for Amber itself.
Corwin travels to his Pattern with Fiona and has what becomes as Castle Rosa built there.
Prince Tristan, Oberon's youngest son, returns to Amber after his long exile in shadow (following his eloping with Isabel, one of Oberon's wives), swears loyalty to Random, and is given the post of Lord Legislator.
- 13 PPF. Armies, apparently led by Dara, boil out of several of the entrances into the closed realms of the lords of Chaos. Benedict drives most of them back, but not without losses. He does not seem happy to be fighting Dara. Fiona attempts to open one of the closed realms to Benedict's forces. She screams 'No!' and falls catatonic.
Fiona is brought back to Amber to be cared for.
- 16 PPF. Corwin and Merlin go to explore whatever lies beyond Corwins Pattern. They have not been heard from since.
- 18 PPF. Random sets up a garrison force to guard and watch Corwins Pattern, under the command of Lord Rein.
- 20 PPF. Julian's daughter Margot is born.
- 23 PPF. The last time Martin is heard from. No-one has been able to contact or find him since.
- 32 PPF. Benedict leaves the occupying forces under the command of Lord Shannon Feldane, and leaves into Shadow.
- 41 PPF. Simultaneous attacks from many of the closed realms in Chaos nearly drives the Amber forces out of Chaos before Benedict is called in, and decimates the Chaos attackers, driving them back into their realms. In the process, despite attempting to avoid it, he kills the Chaosites leader, Princess Dara, in single combat.
- 52 PPF. Late at night, Bleys Trumps a small team of elite troops into Castle Amber in an attempt to take over the throne by capturing Random and Vialle (this last was learnt from prisoner interrogation). A quick and decisive strike seems to be the plan. Only the alarm, raised by Caine by the time Bleys has got at least three quarters of the way to the Royal apartments (leaving a trail of guards and servants bodies behind it), stops this plan from working, and leads to a good many hours of bloody fighting through the halls of the castle before Bleys flees with the comatose Fiona, after which his troops are soon defeated. Every Amberite around (plus lots of castle guards) is called to assist. Of these:
- Benedict didn't even answer the Trump call. He never says why.
- Flora stayed in the background, doing organising type stuff (evacuating servants, sorting out the medics etc. etc.), and wasn't involved in the actual fighting at all.
- Gerard was out at sea with the fleet, but was able to come through and assist after a while - he needed to find the fleet a safe anchorage before he left.
- Julian was unable to assist, being engaged in combat with some shadow forces off in Arden at the time (at least, this is what could be seen through the Trump link, apparently).
- Margot (who was about 30 at the time) came through and did help, but got quite badly hurt doing so.
- Tristan, a close friend of Bleys, is briefly arrested and questioned regarding this attack, but is soon released when it becomes clear his is innocent of any involvement.
Julian spends several years hunting Bleys through shadow, to no avail.
- 57 PPF. Lord Damien Mortlake turns up in Arden one summers day and decimates a patrol of Ranger. "I though I was still in Italy", is his explanation; he was on holiday. No-one is entirely sure how he came to Arden from shadow Medmenham, where he was raised. Julian takes him to Amber where it is decided that he is a family member even if no-one claims him as theirs. He walks the Pattern and goes off into shadow.
A couple of months later, Damien returns and swears allegiance to Random, revealing that he now knows his father is Bleys.
- 60 PPF. Julian's daughter Esmée is born.
- 71 PPF. Several shadows, formerly on the fringes of the Golden Circle and which used the chaos after the Patternfall War to break away from Amber, march on Amber. They are led by some kind of vast, very real, dragon-creature. They lay siege to Amber.
Tristan uses Castle Corvallin and swift shadow shifting (much faster than anyone else can) to do hit and run raids on various of the shadows supporting the dragon, to disrupt supplies, reinforcements etc. with a good deal of success. He avoided all contact with dragon. He hadn't told anyone about his flying castle or his small personal army before this, but its now obviously known to quite a few people.
- 72 PPF. Benedict leads an army raised in Shadow while Gerard and Caine take on the dragon.
Part of the army is a large group of troops from shadow Keirei, led by Ibrahim Al Nasr, son of Eric, apparently gathered by Eric in case of need.
Caine distracts the dragon while Gerard lands the killing blow. With the dragon dead, the other attackers are routed, and their shadows occupied, forcing them into the Golden Circle anyway. The bones of the dragon are still a hazard to shipping, poking out of the water about ten miles out to sea from Amber.
Once the war is over, Ibrahim walks the Pattern and swears loyalty to Random.
- 75 PPF. Caine's son Caleb is born.
- 80 PPF. After a period of political upheaval in Rebma, Llewella emerges as Queen of the city.
The fate of Moire is never discovered.
- 89 PPF. Gerard discovers Beltaine, Brand's daughter, during a visit to Tir Na N'Ogth. She is apparently a child some seven years of age.
- 97 PPF. Tamarind, son of Deirdre, Trumps into the Great Courtyard in Amber demanding an audience with his mother. He is not happy to discover that she is dead, but remains in Amber.
- 100 PPF. Beltaine walks the Pattern in Tir Na N'Ogth. Afterwards, she is ill for several months with more than simply the expected exhaustion.
- 103 PPF. The Start of the Game...
On to Part 1 of the Prologue.
