TY'IGA

From "Comes in the End Despondency and Madness".

"The ty'iga were a normally bodiless race of demons that dwelled in the blackness beyond the rim. I recalled being told that they were very powerful and very difficult to control."

Merlin, 'Sign of Chaos', Chapter 10

Ty'iga, are a type of demon from 'beyond the rim'. They are quite subtle and powerful. However, as with all other demons, they are at the bottom of the social heap in Chaos, and most are either magically bound or in the service of some House or other.

Ty'iga are built on 100 points (this point total is from a game where the other characters were built on 150 points, with basic shapeshifting for free), plus Ty'iga powers for free (effectively amounting to 80 points worth).

Their Psyche starts at Amber rank (rather than the Chaos rank that their other statistics start at; for non-Ty'iga in this game all statistics started at Chaos ranked).

They cannot buy Logrus, or shapeshifting (though they can use those powers if a host body possesses them), but can buy Magical powers. They could learn Trump, were anyone to teach them, but no-one ever has (and there would also be problems with carrying their Trump deck around unless they were trained to Advanced level). Equipment in general is kind of pointless as it cannot be carried (again, though, they can use equipment possessed by a host body).

They can be summoned and controlled by mages with the requisite knowledge. They are also vulnerable to the Affect Spirits path of Trump Voodoo.

Their native form is a blue mist, which is essentially immune to physical harm (this includes harm from spells with physical effects or which affect physical things, such as lightning bolts; they are still vulnerable to spells that work via the mind) and can travel through solid matter and through shadow under its own power (though moving through shadow is quite slow - certainly much slower than by using the Logrus). They can also move themselves plus their host bodies through shadow, though this is even slower than moving just themselves. They can be stopped by magical barriers and wards, as well as similar things done with Trump Voodoo.

They do not have any normal senses when in mist form, but instead somehow crudely sense matter as dark shapes and living things as glowing shapes. Magic is also visible to them in this form, as glowing lines and shapes which, with training (which does not necessarily imply any ability to use magic) they can use to sense what the magic does from a distance (how far depends on their Psyche). Their lack of normal senses makes them immune to some forms of invisibility spell, when in mist form (those which physically bend light, not those which affect the mind). When in a host they use the hosts senses, although they do retain a limited ability to sense magic, at close range and with some concentration.

They can move their mist form into a living being and attempt to take it over. The speed of this depends on relative Psyche. They cannot take over creatures whose Psyches are higher than theirs; taking over a creature with a Psyche close to theirs will be a hard fight, which they may not win (Endurance comes in useful here). When possessing a host they gain a degree of surface knowledge on the host; how much they gain depends on relative Psyche levels.

When possessing a host, for everything but Psyche they use the highest of their own statistics or those of the host; Psyche is always at the Ty'iga's level. The host will not, initially at least, remember that they have been possessed - they will feel as if they were unconscious for the duration of the possession. However, it is quite likely that a possessed host (particularly one of Amber Psyche or above) will begin to remember that something happened, first in dreams and then, perhaps, while waking. The higher the Psyche of the possessed person, the faster this will happen.

They are unaffected by any harm done to their current host body. They only effect of the death of the host body is to force them out of it. This is the only time their blue misty form is likely to be visible in public - they much prefer to use stealth when taking over a host.

Without a host body to talk through, they can only communicate with physical entities via magic. They can talk with other Ty'iga who are both outside host bodies via an intrinsic psychic/magical speech (which allows communication only, but not any kind of mental contact outside that).
