MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATION
Worlds and Peoples
Places
All the moons of Mongo are Kingdoms in their own right. The following is a list of various places mentioned in the film.
- Aquaria. A group of flat-topped rocks floating in the air.
- Arborea. A huge rocky bowl, with jagged spiky edges, full of huge mist-wreathed trees covered in vines and the like. The ground is dimly lit and varies from merely wet to quicksand and deep foul-water lakes. The inhabitants live above ground level, in the trees; their settlements are linked by walkways around the trees. The people are known as 'Tree-Men' their religious leaders who oversee the ceremonies of their god, Arbor, are addressed by the title 'Green Father'. Arborean troops wear green clothing and use swords and crossbow-shaped blast beam guns.
- Ardentia. Home of black people with blue blood who wear golden harnesses with hanging straps, and golden head dresses. Their leader, Prince Thun, was killed by Ming.
- Azuria.
- Cythera. The secret pleasure moon of Princess Aura. She has a palace retreat there, 'built for two'.
- Frigea. A world of ice formations. Home of tall white-skinned people who wear silver and white fur clothing with black trim. Also the source of Frigean ice jewels.
- Sandmoon.
- The SK System. The Solar System which contains the Earth.
Peoples
Also, there are various races and peoples shown in the film who are not associated with any particular place.
- Hawkmen. Male ones have black-feathered wings with bronze highlights; the wings of the females vary much more in colour - red, blonde and blue feathered ones are common. Normal troops wear helmets with fierce-face masks, black trunks, boots and harnesses, and use black and gold guns which fire blue energy beams. Before the first death of Ming, they lived in a silver metal city supported on rockets; this was destroyed by Ming after the death of his second in command, Klytus.
- Lizard-Men. Green-scaled humanoids with a long, thin tail, who move with a stooped gait. Their eyes are inside their red-lined mouths.
- A dwarven race who wear long robes and masks. When at court they wear wide-shouldered robes which make them seem almost square. As weapons they use rapiers scaled to their height.
- Undertakers - hooded dwarves in black robes who wear gold masks which resemble the painting 'The Scream'.
- Doctors - White jackets and trousers, with a gold and red starburst on the left cheast (a red 'X' and vertical sword within a gold circle).
Some of these beings dissolve into black slime when killed, leaving only their clothes behind.
Ming worships the god Dy-Zan, in whose name he destroys things. He, after all, only destroyed worlds if they, for whatever reason, became aware of him.
Technology and the Like
Egg-timers whose sand runs up.
The vast majority of the guns used in Mongo fire 'blast beams' of various colours. However, Dr Zarkov has been introducing a variety of projectile weapons, too, as they are much easier to build, if less effective.
In Mongo, many people in authority have rings which also function as keys. They project a yellow beam of light at a plate by the door, which then opens (or not, of course).
Thought-Amplifier communicators. These need a transmitter, but not a receiver, and once contact is made, two-way communications are possible. Transmitted thoughts sound 'echoey' in the heads of the people taking part.
Radio-like communicators are also used in vehicles, and as personal communicators (worn on the wrist); these can also project homing beams for incoming vehicles.
Mongo has mind reading, erasure, and re-programming devices. These are big cylindrical devices, pointed at the head, under which the victim is strapped down. To erase a persons memories (as they tried to do to Dr. Zarkov) the device reads back through their memories, erasing as it goes. This can be resisted by persons whose Ego is high enough; they need to make a roll by 5 or more. Once a persons mind is erased, a new one can be programmed in (though how much knowledge a person can stand to have programmed in depends on their species).
Distances are measured in 'Mongo Miles'.
