
Rules Modifications
My main modification to the Everway rules was my elimination of the Fortune Deck, mainly because I didn't have the time to learn it to the level I would really have needed to run effectively. Instead I used a single roll of a ten-sided dice to determine the outcome of actions.
Two different systems have been used:
- Initially actions were determined by each side rolling a d10, adding it to the appropriate statistic, and comparing the results with the higher winning. However, this gave results in which the characters abilities were almost irrelevant to the outcome, as it was quite likely that the roll of the dice would outweigh the relevant statistic, making things far too arbitrary.
- So, I changed to a different system where only the player got to roll the dice, and that affected both their and the opponents outcomes. Instead of simple addition, the results of the d10 roll were as follows:
- 1 : -2 to ability, and re-roll with only negative outcomes being counted.
- 2 : -1 to ability.
- 3 to 8 : No modification.
- 9 : +1 to ability.
- 10 : +2 to ability, and re-roll with only positive outcomes being counted.
