This is an Everway-based game of piracy that I ran for our work roleplaying group in early 2005. The player characters are members of the crew of the pirate ship the 'Black Mamba'.

The Pirates

  • Captain Raven (played by Samantha Beadle). Formerly an African princess, she was captured by another tribe in war and sold as a slave, brought to Caribbean, then escaped and became a pirate, rising to Captain based on her skills. She is a tall black woman with black hair, who likes gold jewellery, wearing large gold earrings, bangles and so on. Well-trusted, about two-fifths of the crew are personally loyal to her.
  • Mr Jack Vaughn (played by Matthew Johns), formerly an NCO in His Majesty's Customs and Excise, he is now the Quartermaster of the Black Mamba, and as such largely in charge when the ship is not in combat. Well-trusted, about two-fifths of the crew are personally loyal to him.
  • Bert (played by Peter Felton), the ships pilot and navigator, he is an ex-cat burglar, who was hunted from London, stowed away on a ship, and was clapped in irons until he was rescued by Captain Raven. He is very good with knives. Solid and trustworthy, about one-fifth of the crew are personally loyal to him.
  • Spike (played by Alastair Beadle), a recent recruit formerly in the Royal Navy, into which he was press-ganged at age sixteen, and which he hates. Because of his background and recent arrival, no-one really trusts him yet. He is very good with a cutlass, and works as a 'topman' rigger and lookout. He shaves his head with his cutlass every morning.
  • Finbar Halligan (played by Nigel Gale), the Irish Catholic ships carpenter.

Their statistics and so on can be seen here.

Other crewmen include Sven, a Dane, Al Fresco, the cook, Midshipman Xavier Bidet, one of Bert's understudies, Jake, and Ebediah Phipps, who are both strong swimmers, Julian and Quentin, who are gay, and Higgins.

Their Ship

The Black Mamba is a former armed merchantman that has been modified for pirate work with more guns. She has six main cannon along each side, two more pointing forwards, and two more pointing to the rear. She is also armed with various pivot guns on deck mounts. Her flag is a skull-and-crossbones, but rather than a human skull, the skull is that of a fanged snake.

She has a reputation as a pirate vessel, but is not widely known, and not widely recognised.
