Nicobrus' Diary

Part 1 | Part 2

Nicobrus played by Matt Fitzgerald

Tir-Na-N'Ogth has vanished. Just like that - poof, all gone, nothing left. From what I've heard of it they're better off without it, apart from a few problems : 1) - Prince Corwin was in there at the time (this presumably matters to someone somewhere); 2) - I don't know what effect it will have on Tara, but nothing good judging by her immediate reaction; and 3) One of their Patterns is up there, so they're going to think the Courts did it. I formed an impromptu search party to look high and low (literally) for Corwin, as the best I could think of at the time, but he was nowhere to be found. I'm sure everyone can worry about the mystic significance of this quite well enough on their own, I'm going to get some sleep.

I was awoken by someone else in our rooms. Turned out to beYallia impersonating Ishmael so she could acquire (I later discovered) one of Benedict's old swords. I think Gilva's been letting their training slip a bit over at Hendrake. This really didn't help matters much, but I think Fiona intervened to reclaim the item. Poor old Ishmael got caught in the crossfire again - I gather he and his lady love had another of their fallings out (quite mild by their standards - he wasn't even limping) and Yallia's stormed off back home. It's also poisoned relations between him and Tara. Wonderful. No prizes for guessing who gets to play piggy in the middle with those two...

They have a strange attitude to new family members here. His Majesty took about two minutes to welcome Cuchulainn, and then despatched him to 'Walk the Pattern', no training, no preparation, just get on with it. At least he let him finish his breakfast first. Cuchulainn offered to try and teleport off to wherever Tir-Na-N'oght has gotten to - you can't fault the man for spirit. Sense yes, but not spirit.

I dropped by to see Antonia and apologise for the rather unorthodox end to her Ball last night, and invited her along to a little party Adam threw to celebrate Cuchulainn's arrival / survival - least I could do really. She did bring a rather excellent bottle of wine along though, perhaps House Karm deserves further investigation. Adam's party turned into people speculating about plots and rumours from back home - assassinations and 'Black Armadas'. Rather worrying really. Oh, and Uncle Julian turned up and accused Dad of trying to murder him. What a wag. I'm afraid I used the excuse of Antonia's mother arriving in full sail to escape into the gardens (and steal Chantala back for an hour or so).

I visited Garnath later and talked to Dad, mainly to fill in my gaps where Tir-Na Nog'th is concerned. Apparently only Dworkin knows much about it. He's planning to check up on Avernus and see what was behind the attack on Uncle Happy. There's also an expedition afoot to try and find Merlin. I'll probably tag along.

Well - we didn't find Merlin, but either he's in big trouble or someone really doesn't like his taste in furniture. His Shadow dwelling had been warped and trashed in equal measure, and we were forced to subdue several unruly domestic appliances. I'm not certain Ernst is cut out for this sort of thing - she seemed to be having trouble with what turned out to be a shopping trolley. All we found was his address book, a photo that Adam later said he recognised and an unfinished magical construct that called itself 'Ghostwheel'. I'm rather afraid that we've destroyed it. I hope it wasn't too important.

We also found a rather obvious shadow trail, well juggernaught path would be more accurate. For want of a better plan we decided to follow it.
