The Gap 103 PPF to 113 PPF

Beltaine and Owen are in a Tir-Na Nog'th anomaly in Beltaine's quarters. They still can't be extricated.

The one hundred year jubilee of Random's ascension to the throne is coming up soon. Parades and services and celebrations of many kinds and colours are planned.

Tristan wants a 24 hour amnesty for Bleys to come back to Amber beforehand and hopefully negotiate a more permanent return. Tristan, while drunk, tells Damien. Damien is not in favour of this, and arranges a campaign to stop Bleys' return by spreading the tale to people who don't want to see Bleys back at all - e.g. the families of people killed in Bleys and Corwin's invasion of Amber. Julian is indirectly informed too. Random notes the 'coincidental' timing of the campaign.

Tristan talks to Damien about the anti-Bleys campaign. Damien admits nothing. Tristan says Bleys might be able to help Beltaine and Owen - he is the expert of Pattern and magic, after all.

Damien steps up the campaign and is summoned by Random. He plays the innocent when accused of being behind it, but doesn't actually lie. Caine goes into the Kings office as Damien leaves.

A pro-Bleys campaign begins and gains support.

The anti-Bleys campaign begins to hint that the pro-Bleysers are treasonous. They do not make any overt accusations.

Tristan suggests sending Damien to take a message to Bleys. Damien is summoned to the King again, and asked to do this. He takes the message and goes. Before too long, he picks it open and reads it - it says the negotiations are still on 'despite the best efforts of your idiot son'.

In Amber, Tristan is woken up - there has been an intruder. One of the Mayor's assistants has had his head cut off. Tristan is led there. The castle guards have killed a group of ninjas who did the deed - they look like some of Tristan's ninjas of desire he sent out after the escapees from his prison shadows. The victim wasn't an escapee though - he was Kalen Clemens - a member of House Clemens, to whom Tristan is related. In fact, Tristan got him this job. One of the ninjas had a contract on him which vaguely resembles Tristan's - they are probably shadows of his ninjas.

Tristan is not happy. He writes a sheepish report for Random.

Meanwhile, down in the docks, Altair, secret daughter of Gerard, is unloading a cargo of bunting and other party supplies for the upcoming jubilee.

The paper of the message Damien is carrying seems quite real - he can't use the Pattern to change the message to what he wants to say. Bollocks.

He finds a shadow with rocs in it, and attaches the message to one of them as it feeds on an elephant. It is a roc of desire, and Damien sends it to where Bleys once was, but isn't now (not Amber!). If it does see him, it's to attack.

Damien turns back towards Amber.

Everyone wakes up.

It is cold and dark. Everyone is lying on a cold, hard stone floor, in a dark 10 foot square room. They are each alone. It is utterly cold, to their bones. The sound of ones voice fades away more quickly then it should. There is a window hole in one wall, and a doorway, but no glass, frame or door.

Everyone is wearing whatever they consider to be their normal clothes, and carrying any equipment which is part of their personal reality.

Tamarind tries to Trump to his personal shadow (he and Altair seem to be the only ones who still have their Trump decks). It's too dark to use the Trump.

Tristan can sense that we're somewhere real - certainly as real as Amber - probably Amber itself. There is some magic here, though it feels a little strange. And there is a real power source - a black mist flowing slowly over the floor.

He uses the Pattern to find a torch, and lights it - the flame is monochromatic, and gives no heat.

Ibrahim can sense magic here - peculiar, but useable.

Altair wakes up in the same situation as everyone else. She walks out into ... a street.

Damien gets up. 'This is definitely upping the ante,' he mutters. He goes outside.

Ibrahim tries to use the Pattern to find a torch, but fails; the Pattern doesn't seem to work.

The houses in the street outside are small and square, of one storey. It is very dark. The only light is starlight. A few people are visible, in windows or doorways, or moving very slowly down the street. They react very slowly if spoken to.

The houses go on as far as one can see in the starlight, except possibly in one direction. The land rises very slightly in one direction, too.

The inhabitants just stare blankly at us.

Tamarind notices that one has slashed wrists. There is no blood, or sign of blood. He can sense a mind there, but no emotion or life.

He can feel differences between some of his Trumps. It's very slight, but the Trumps of people such as Deirdre and the others of the player characters seem to have a slightly different quality to the other Trumps in his deck.

He tries to Trump Tristan; there's enough starlight outside to do that.

Various of us discover that looking up at the cloudless night sky, with its blazing stars in patterns no-one recognises, is a horrible sensation, as if someone is dancing on your grave.

Damien peers at a bystander - he's been eviscerated. The next person looks garroted or strangled. Or perhaps their head has been cut off and re-attached. 'Hmm,' he thinks. He climbs up onto a rooftop and sets off across the roofs of the city.

Tamarind's Trump of Tristan, as he concentrates on it, glows with a silver light that then arcs away in a thread, up and across the rooftops. Elsewhere, Tristan is aura'd with silver light as the thread comes down. He feels a Trump call coming on, and accepts it.

When the link opens, each of them sees that the other has a fatal-looking head wounds, and both look a little older than they were.

Tristan comes through to Tamarind. Tamarind tries Trumping Flora. A silver light glows around the Trump but no seeking silver thread arcs out of it. He tries the Amber Trump and notes that place Trumps don't even develop the silver glow.

He tries to remember how he got here. He gets a sense of flying over a blasted landscape at great speed, then a wall...

He tries to Trump Deirdre.

Altair reaches the edge of the city. Bare ground stretches off. There is no sign of any living thing out there. She tries to Trump Gerard. The card glows silver but no other effect happens. She then checks for other active Trumps. Tamarind's is active. Deirdre's is tingling.

Damien's, Deirdre's, Ibrahim's, Tristan's, Tamarind's and hers all feel odd somehow.

She tries to Trump Damien. The card glows silver and a silver thread arcs away, out over the blasted landscape.

On a rooftop elsewhere, Damien suddenly glows silver and feels a Trump call coming on. He points his sword in the direction of the thread, and accepts the call.

Altair introduces herself as Gerard's daughter.

To Damien she looks as if she has holes in her head, and he can see grey hairs appearing on her head as the Trump link continues. She comes through the link to Damien, and observes that he has holes in his head too. Humph.

Damien borrows Altair's Trumps of Tristan and Ibrahim and tries them.

By this point it's pretty clear to everyone that they're dead, and this appears to be the land of the dead. Tamarind and Altair can tell that the Trumps of dead people have this slightly different quality to those of everyone else.

Tamarind's Trump of Deirdre turns silver and silver light arcs off. He turns to face in that direction, which seems to be slightly downhill.

The link to Deirdre opens up - Tamarind is overjoyed. Deirdre looks appalled, and says as much. He tells her he doesn't know how he died. Deirdre herself looks quite old - mid-40's at least - somewhat wrinkled and grey. She is also wearing a half-mask on one side of her face, covering forehead and cheek, but with an eye-hole. Her clothing is high-collared.

Altair senses Deirdre's Trump become active.

Damien Trumps Tristan as he and Tamarind go through their link to Deirdre. They appear in a large vaulted hall or corridor and the link to Tristan drops.

Altair Trumps Tamarind, and although Tamarind can't identify the caller, takes the call anyway. Things are explained and she and Damien eventually go through.

Upon arrival, Damien Trumps Ibrahim and brings him through. He has two holes in his forehead, that look a bit like they were made by an icepick.

Everyone is in a dimly lit vaulted black stone hall with various doors off on one side and glass-less windows on the other. Tristan quickly finds a mirror (using the Pattern, which only he still seems able to use). He has holes in his head too.

Ibrahim tries to Trump Eric (using a card borrowed from Deirdre, who seems to have a deck on her). The silver thread flashes off and he feels a contact. He pushes it.

Tristan examines the holes in his head. They seem like wounds inflicted to destroy higher brain functions rather than kill the victim. So it's possible we may not be dead, physically, at least.

Ibrahim forces the contact with Eric. Eric is leaning in a doorway, staring vacantly. His eyes s-l-o-w-l-y turn to Ibrahim. He just stares. Ibrahim grabs him and brings him through. Eric looks very, very old. Ibrahim appropriates Eric's sword, Pattern sword in fact.

When Eric comes through Deirdre says that she avoided ending up like him because she had help. "It's best you meet him." She won't say if its Brand or not.

She and Tamarind talk.

Damien explains his Orpheus theory - we've been sent here by someone to bring someone back - probably by Bleys, to bring back Fiona. Damien borrows a Trump of Fiona and concentrates on it - the silver thread arcs off. He goes over to a window to see where the light leads. We're high up, looking down on a city with a black mist rising up from it, keeping close to the slope. The ground seems to rise beyond the city, which has a dry harbour, black ships scattered about it, and bears some resemblance to Amber itself. The silver thread arcs off to high ground beyond the city.

Altair helps Damien, and a contact starts to grow. Fiona's mind seems locked in on itself, in some kind of feedback loop. The contact opens. Fiona looks about 50, and is curled up in a ball in a doorway somewhere in one of these cities. Damien pulls her through.

Everyone notices the accelerated ageing which affects both Damien and Altair when they are exerting themselves in the Trump link. Deirdre tells them that they only have a finite reserve of self, which exertion uses up, and it's the using up which causes the ageing effect. When it's all used up, all that will be left is something like ... she indicates Eric.

She also mentions that there's another cousin here, named Evan. No-one recognises the name. Because of the similarity of his name with Evander's, we check and Deirdre says she doesn't think he's Brand's son. Tamarind shows her a Trump of Evander and she says it's not him.

Deirdre leads us through the castle (Eric follows when led) and into a vaulted circular chamber fitted out as a magical laboratory. A couple of other doors lead out in other directions. The place is brightly lit by monochrome torches. A big nonogram (like a pentagram, but with nine points) is carved into the floor.

A very old man leaning on a cane peers up at us. He is completely white-haired with a single green eye and an eye patch, dressed in black, with a high collar. He definitely has a family resemblance - could it be Brand?

Deirdre introduces everyone. It is indeed Brand.

He has heard of Tamarind, and when Tamarind mentions Beltaine, comments, "Ah, she got out then. Good."

He greets Tristan as a brother, and says Oberon is here, in a fashion.

He asks about Amber, and seems to not quite believe that Random is both King, and a good king.

He hobbles about, peering at everyone, and notes that Ibrahim must be Eric's, "the way you're trailing him around like a balloon."

He peers at Altair and notes that she walked the Tir-Na Nog'th Pattern.

He looks at Damien, and guesses that he is Fiona's or Bleys'. Fiona? "We can't choose our relatives," says Damien.

Tamarind mentions the wall he remembered earlier. Brand says it is the barrier between the realm of the living and this, the realm of the dead. He says one can't get to it - the closer one comes, the more it recedes, and also confirms that you age more if you use powers.

We show him Fiona.

Brand says he'll give us something to prevent the ageing process. He produces a handful of intricately carved silvery spikes, pointed on one end with a flat disc on the other (like a long carved nail) - to be inserted into our chests, says Brand.

Tamarind volunteers. Brand rams the spike into his heart. It feels like a burning cold mass of razor blades going in, and keeps hurting even once it is in up to the disc. But Tamarind does feel his strength returning, although the grey hair does not go away.

Damien points out that a family member was behind our coming here, and talks to the ceiling. "We've got her. We're ready to leave." Nothing happens. Huh.

Brand shows us the power source for the spikes, behind one of the doors out of the lab - It's Oberon in an open coffin, with a big spike in his chest, radiating out power. Tristan grins, and seems a lot happier. He accepts a spike too, and Brand jams it into his chest.

Brand says he found Oberon comatose when he arrived, and has kept him under ever since, for safety reasons if nothing else.

Damien suggests the Tamarind tries using Bleys' Trump. Tamarind does. The card glows silver, but nothing else happens.

At this point, both Tamarind and Altair notice that Caine's Trump is flickering between 'living' and 'dead' sometimes; this a very subtle change, which is why they hadn't noticed it before.

Altair attempts to Trump Caine when his Trump is in 'dead mode'. The card turns silver, and a thread arcs out. Before long contact is made. Caine is a zombie in a city. Altair brings him through. He's been stabbed, and his throat cut. He feels like Eric - dead.

Brand peers at him, and says he thinks he's dead. But he looks at the 'flickering' Trump, then Trumps Caine in the lab. Definitely dead. It looks as if he's been dead for quite a while.

We search Caine. He has a ring, Trump deck, and twelve daggers. Tristan finds no younger Amberites in his deck except Altair. Tristan is also there. This suggests Caine came here before Patternfall.

Damien suggests that this is the duplicate Caine who was killed to frame Corwin. The wounds certainly look right.

Fiona is also searched. She has a Trump deck and various rings.

Brand admits that he has some idea of a way out ... but he's not sure if it'll work.

Altair wonders about Brand and Deirdre not having bodies to return to. Brand nods, and admits that it's a problem, and why he and Deirdre haven't already left.

When asked, Brand also mentions that there are some members of the Courts of Chaos here, but they are far away.

Tristan looks out of a window facing in a different direction to the one Damien looked out of earlier. He can see what look like rainbow-things, braided columns of light arcing into the sky far away in the distance from beyond what seem to be mountains. There are four rising up into the star-filled sky from one side. One is blue-silver, one blue-green, one silvery-white and one gold-pink. A greenish glow is visible below them, too. They fade away about half-way up the sky. On the other side (where there also seem to be mountains) there is the greenish glow and four more glows, the same colours as the 'half-rainbows'. Much further away an entire arch is visible. This one is silvery in colour.

Bridges? Something representing the four Patterns of Amber?

We ask Brand if he can do anything to help Fiona. He peers at her, and looks hard at her Trump.

As he peers, he says there is a price for his returning them to the land of the living. Regardless of what they think of him, he and Deirdre want out of here. So - they want their bodies, or acceptable substitutes, so they can return too.

Brand gives Damien an intricately carved, roughly spherical black stone, about an inch in diameter. He says that if you concentrate on it, it should link to him like a Trump. It feels similar to the spikes.

Damien is prepared to do this thing, as is Tamarind. Tristan wants to know if Brand has learned his lesson. Brand is non-committal.

Tamarind tells Brand about Beltaine's current situation.

Tristan reminds Brand of Evan. Deirdre leads us to a nearby room. Seated in the window, staring out, is a young man (he looks 18 or so) wearing an ornate 19th century style cavalry uniform. A crossbow is on a nearby table. He has a definite family resemblance, but looks nothing like Evander. He looks slowed down, and rather weak. As he (slowly) turns towards Tristan it can be seen that he has a spike too, and his head is bashed in. When questioned he says he can't remember his parents, but Oberon is his great-grandfather; he generally doesn't seem to remember very much. He says he was assassinated, and wants to come back with us.

Deirdre doesn't know if he has a body, but imagines so. She says he was almost gone when they found him, which is why he's slowed and weak.

When asked Evan thinks it's physically impossible for him to go to Amber - perhaps this means he's from Corwin's universe? Tamarind shows him Trumps of Corwin and Merlin, but Evan doesn't recognise them. He is shown other Trumps, but doesn't recognise them either, apart from not seeming sure about Benedict.

Back in the lab, Brand mutters at Fiona as he looks into her eyes. He gets no response - his eyes flash once - a silvery colour.

The others return. Altair concentrates upon Fiona's Trump and tries to poke at her mind; Fiona glows silver. She also watches Brand levering Fiona's mind open, and tries to help, ageing as she does so.

There is a twitch in Fiona's mind. Brand redoubles his psychic urgings. Fiona's head glows more silver in addition to the silver Trump glows.

Altair feels a convulsion in Fiona's mind. There is a mental cry of "Get out of my mind!" Altair and Brand stagger back.

Fiona slumps back and begins to unfold from her foetal position. She takes deep breaths.

Tristan tells her she's dead. Comforting.

She remembers the doors to the Chaos realm were a trap. "Too many angles," she mutters.

With their permission, Brand inserts chest spikes into everyone.

Fiona thanks Brand and Altair for their efforts.

Brand says that the black mist seems to flow up the mountain we're on. He shows us a picture of a mountain somewhat like Kolvir, with a black pillar of mist rising from the top. Brand says the mist rises up, back to the land of life. We realise that black mist is actually seeping out of us, especially when (say) powers are used. All that's drained from the dead is recycled - all the life, all the passion.

City of the Dead Thumbnail

He claims that one can piggy-back onto this flow, with difficulty, and so return to the land of the living.

Damien helps Fiona stand up, and introduces her to the others.

Brands says he doesn't know how to trap this life force, so reconstituting Eric - in reply to Ibrahim's implied question - is not on.

Brand leads everyone apart from Tristan down a set of stairs, down and down, to arrive, eventually, at the equivalent of the Pattern room.

Tristan leaves the castle/palace where they are and goes off to look for Isobel, his dead wife, using the Pattern for speed. He takes one of Brand's spikes with him.

Under the castle there is a vast sigil in place of the Pattern, hugely complex magical circles, some concentric, some set around others, carved into the floor, which seem to channel the black mist. In overall form it is a nonogram. There are nine obelisks around it, one at each point of the sigil.

Brand says we will stand in the middle of this sigil, he will perform a ritual, and off we'll go.

Far away, Tristan finds what looks like the crashed remains of Castle Corvallin. People he recognises as dead castle guards sit and stand about it, staring vacantly off. He finds Isobel sitting on a stone. He tries to attract her attention. She doesn't recognise him. He puts a magical spike in her and carries her off, heading back towards the castle.

Tamarind decides enough time has gone by and Trumps Tristan. Tristan comes through, bringing Isobel with him.

Brand looks surprised. He says he didn't really believe the stories about Tristan and Isobel, until now.

Tristan asks Brand if Dworkin is here. Brand says he hasn't seen him, and suggests trying his Trump. Tamarind says he doesn't think he's here (from the feel of his Trump), so he's probably alive.

Damien councils against too much optimism regarding Eric, Isobel and the others.

Ibrahim asks Brand to try and restore Eric so we can bring him back later. Then he changes his mind and decides to bring Eric with him, to see if that works to restore him.

Ibrahim is also worried about who the real Caine is.

Anyway, Ibrahim carries Eric. Tamarind carries Caine. Tristan carries Isobel. Everyone (including Fiona) gets to the middle of the nonogram and under Brands direction stands in circles near the middle (just about big enough for two people). Black mist flows through the channels of the nonogram sigil.

Damien tells Fiona that he'll be in touch.

Brand moves around the sigil manipulating his obelisks. The black mist flows faster, and its level rises. Brand chants in an unfamiliar language and the mist rises higher, making walls of black mist. Each of them is enveloped. All sound cuts off as this happens.

The mist rises upwards, blowing around and through them. It feels as if they're being blown away. It hurts! They all feel themselves dissipate into the black mist.

Then it feels as if they are being blown upwards, into the sky. Below them they see a view of the castle, the city and the dead lands spreading out below. They can't see anyone else. The stars do not seem so terrible to look at now...

Up we go, swirling. Each of us swirls towards a star, and into it. There is blinding whiteness...

Then hideous screaming agony in our heads and though our bodies.

It stops. Air rushes into our lungs. We all hear a 'beep beep beep beep' sound. Opening our eyes, we all seem to be in hospital beds, with bandaged heads. None of the others are visible to each of us.

Ibrahim gets out of bed and finds a clipboard. It says that he is a mass murderer under police observation. He's being treated for brain damage. At this point four policemen, armed with guns, burst in. Ibrahim beats them up.

Police are also bursting into Tamarind's room. He throws the bed at them.

Likewise, Tristan suffers armed police bursting in. He just shifts shadow so that their guns don't work, then knocks them out.

Altair hides, then attacks her policemen, then runs off down the hospital corridor outside.

Damien quickly finds Wilkes and Dashwood (his weapons) plus his spell rack and kills the four armed police officers who burst in on him. He then examines his charts. Among other things, it says, "Damien Barimen, arrested for cultural vandalism." He can't read the doctor's signature. He changes 'Barimen' to 'Mortlake', then leaves.

Tamarind quickly finds his Trump deck, then Trumps to Amber.

Tristan shifts back to the original hospital. More thugs burst in, He shifts out again so that guns don't work again, finds a sword, and chops them up.

Ibrahim shifts shadow to find some guns, then leaves the hospital via the fire escape.

Altair hides in a cleaners cupboard and disguises herself as a janitor. She has a mop and a bottle of squirty bleach. She finds a chief administrators office, and locates her file. It says she has been locked away for murder, terrorism and bank robbery. The supervising medic is Dr Travis Udaloy, and she was signed over to him by a Chief Inspector Alarne Molin. She finds her Trumps, filed under 'T', and Trumps Gerard.

Damien finds his clothes and gets dressed, killing four more thugs as he does so. As he dresses he realises he has the stone Brand gave him in a pocket. It burns with cold, and seems sharper than it should be. He uses an invisibility spell and strolls off.

Tamarind steps through to Amber. He borrows a cloak to cover his revealing hospital gown and heads for his rooms. A guard he asks says Tristan and Damien are also in residence at the moment. Caine, Flora and others too - people are where they are expected to be.

He Trumps Tristan.

Tristan is looking up to where Castle Corvallin is floating over the hospital. She lowers her ramp and he enters her, then shifts shadow away. A policeman on the ground shouts for him to surrender (over a megaphone). Tristan ignores them. Castle Corvallin sails off. He is followed by helicopters until he makes them stop working, at which point they fall from out of the sky onto the city, and explode.

That done, he rushes down to the castle crypt and opens Isobel's sarcophagus - Isobel is in there, young again (she died of old age), and seemingly alive. Tristan hugs her to him. Her head lolls mindlessly on his shoulder, and her stare is wide-eyed. There's nobody home. Tristan collapses to the floor and cries.

Ibrahim legs it from the hospital, shifting shadow as he goes. He steals a car, drives for twenty minutes, then stops and checks the local magic. He drives on, shifting for Amber.

Altair gets through to Gerard. She says she was dead, but got better. Gerard looks dubious. She goes through the link to Gerard (who is on the poop deck of his flagship), then runs through what happened.

"We must tell the King," says Gerard.

Damien finds an administrators office, and checks the files. He quickly finds his own. He obtains the names of those responsible for his being here - Dr William Melgar, and Chief Inspector Elspeth Carpen (a policewoman).

He finds Dr Melgar's office and kills the thugs who are with him. Still invisible, Damien questions the doctor. He says the Antiquities Police brought Damien here one and a half days ago.

At this point, the hospital is stomped on by a Martian War Machine. Several, in fact.

Damien climbs up the leg of one to the cockpit, and kicks out the Martian pilot (a large tentacled creature, bigger than a bear...). He drives the war machine off through the city to the Antiquities Police, parks outside, climbs down, and goes in, still invisible.

Tamarind has no luck Trumping Tristan (he's not taking calls as he cries), so he gives up and goes to Trump Damien instead.

Ibrahim drives until he reaches the outskirts of Arden. Driving on, he soon meets a patrol of Julian's Rangers, led by Julian himself, fortunately. Julian lends Ibrahim a Trump of the Amber Castle arrival courtyard, then Ibrahim Trumps there. He runs to the stables, grabs his horse, and gallops out of the castle and up Kolvir.

Gerard and Altair Trump to Random. Altair suggests that the full story should wait until the others have been found. She goes off to bathe and change out of her cleaners clothes.

Damien feels a Trump call coming on. He takes it and his invisibility spell is destroyed. Fortunately the corridor he's in is empty at the time, and he's just found the office of the person he was looking for. Damien grabs Chief Inspector Elspeth Carpen, knocks her out with no problems, and comes through the link to Tamarind.

As this happens, a servant comes up and tells them than Random wants to see them.

Ibrahim arrives at Eric's tomb and opens the sarcophagus. Inside, Eric is alive, but drooling. Ibrahim helps him out, picks up his Pattern sword too, and rides back towards the castle with Eric wrapped in a rug.

Altair arrives back at the Kings office.

Damien and Tamarind arrive. Damien has the Chief Inspector over his shoulder and puts her in a chair. Damien tries to Trump Fiona.

Tamarind tries to Trump Caine. The call is answered. Caine is in a tavern somewhere. Tamarind asks him if Caine would come through with him to see the King. Caine does so.

Ibrahim enters the Castle by a postern gate. He sends a message to Random, then goes to his staff office. He gets the days report, then goes to Random's office.

Damien is not getting through to Fiona. Altair comes over and assists.

Tamarind tries to Trump Tristan again. This time Tristan doesn't resist and comes through with the lolling Isobel.

Damien and Altair still can't get through to Fiona. They give up.

Now that everyone is here, Random is told the story of recent events.

Random says he spoke to Tristan and Ibrahim, earlier today...

Ibrahim wants to be arrested, as a precaution, so any other sightings of him are obviously the imposter.

Random goes to the door to rouse the guard, but a solid wall of pale gold stone (like that of the rest of the castle) fills the doorway. Magic! Ibrahim gives Random Eric's Pattern blade.

Caine is asked about his duplicate they found in the land of the dead. "It must have been a very real shadow," says someone. "As real as they come," says Caine.

Damien, glancing out of a window, sees a tiny figure at the peak of Kolvir. The figure seems to be waving its arms, then throws something up into the air. It ignites. He points this out to everyone else. Altair and Tamarind notice that Evander's Trump is active.

The fiery speck flies up into the air towards the sun, growing brighter as it goes. It enters the sun...
