HEROES - PART 3 - SESSION 10

Notes taken by Alastair and Samantha Beadle.

Session 3.9   Index   Session 3.11

EARLY MORNING THURSDAY 17TH AUGUST 1995

Noesis watches the Canary Wharf tower disappearing up into the sky. D.I. Dickinson asks if he can do anything about the bits falling to earth as the spacecraft sheds its tower disguise. Noesis flies off and uses his telekinesis to catch falling debris.

Inside the tower, the Brood Queen lies unconscious. The other Brood pick up blaster weapons and turn to attack. Chronos rushes forward and ages the Queen, which remains unconscious. John Doe poses in the doorway. Servo hits one of the Brood with his truncheon. It falls over. Blitz fires at a couple of the Brood and they too fall unconscious, bleeding heavily. Unfortunately this also destroys much of the main console.

Then Blitz suddenly feels the need to kill anyone in the room who isn't a Brood.

Chronos appears behind another Brood warrior which is aged into unconsciousness and impending death.

John Doe shrinks into a two foot high Cthulu bristling with Brood blasters and fires on a Brood to no noticeable effect. Servo attacks again, and another Brood falls over.

Unexpectedly, Blitz turns and fires on Chronos, who takes a powerful plasma bolt straight on.

John Doe sees this, but takes it as the normal sort of treatment Chronos gets from the other members of the group, and ignores it, attacking another Brood, which is blown apart in messy gobbets.

Servo shouts, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?!?!" at Blitz as he clubs another Brood into unconsciousness.

John Doe sends two tentacles out to have a peek into corners he can't see from the door in case other Brood (and especially a Queen) are hiding out of sight.

Outside the tower, Noesis can't help noticing that the glowing white light that seems to be the drive of the tower is flickering. Not a good sign.

He uses a mental link he put up to John Doe earlier to see what is going on in the tower. He tells John Doe there is probably mind control going on. No shit.

John Doe is mentally attacked by the supposedly unconscious Queen, but shrugs it off and can tell that it came from it - it's obviously faking. He shouts out this information and he and Servo attack the Queen, which twitches.

Blitz manages to break out of the mental control the Queen had put on him. He too can tell the Queen was responsible, and leaps to the attack. The Queen nimbly rolls to its feet. Blitz blasts it, and it falls over again.

Chronos puts the Brood blaster he is carrying to the head of the Queen and fires. Its head explodes. Messy.

As the fighting stop, everyone can't help noticing that the ship is lurching in the air - its engines are failing. "We should save the humans!" shouts Blitz.

John Doe runs around and shoots all the remaining Brood. They all die.

Blitz flies into the room where there were four humans suspended in transparent tubes, and picks up two of the humans. Chronos goes and assists.

Over his radio, Blitz asks Noesis to catch the humans as he throws them out of the ship. Noesis dumps all the debris he has collected and flies up to catch the humans as they fall.

Blitz flies down the shaft inside the core of the tower and searches for the exit.

Meanwhile, in the abandoned cinema, Truth has a good look at the two men and her double. She makes some noise at the back of the place. One of the men comes over to investigate after telling whoever it is to, "get out if you know what's good for you", but doesn't find anything. Truth sets some of the old cinema seats alight using matches from her utility belt. Smoke begins to rise. Then flames.

The two men run. The other Verity is looking around. Truth picks up the storm lantern from the folding table while desolid and invisible and hits the other Verity with it. The other Verity leaps over the table at the lantern, but goes through Truth and hits the floor ungracefully. Verity hits her, then asks her what is going on, and why she is impersonating her.

The other Verity has a little trouble with the idea that Truth, the superhero, is claiming to be her. Truth says that she is impersonating her, but the other Verity denies it and says that she is the real Verity.

Back in the tower, John Doe asks Servo to check out the control panels. Servo begins to do so.

After a bit of searching, Blitz finds the hole they had cut in earlier and throws the two unconscious humans out. Unfortunately, it's the middle of the night, and Noesis is still some distance away. He can't see them!

Servo reckons that the ship's controls are badly damaged, but thinks he can get the ship to do a soft landing in the Thames estuary.

He also sees from one display which seems to indicate the ship's trajectory, that it was heading for Project Safeguard, the orbiting prison for super-villains. Well, it isn't now...

Noesis, flying closer at top speed, still can't see the two falling humans. Bad.

John Doe oozes out of the ship onto its hull and up onto its nose. He clings there and grows rocket motors, using them to turn the nose of the ship under Servo's directions so that it can land safely.

Noesis zooms closer still and eventually sees the two humans. They are very close to the ground. He power dives after them and gets within range of his telekinesis as they near the ground. He grabs them, then tries to stop as hard as he can. He moves the two unconscious humans so they are under him to absorb any impact. Giving it his all he manages to stop with the lowest human about six inches off the ground. Phew.

Blitz flies back up inside the tower and collects the other two unconscious humans. Servo lends him the line from his grappling hook to tie them up in a harness to carry them. Blitz brings them down to the exit and puts them in a safe place where they hopefully won't fall out if the tower does any violent manoeuvres.

At the top of the tower, Chronos realises he has no way to get down the inside of the tower under his own power.

Servo directs John Doe, using the display screen in the Brood control room. John Doe uses his organic rockets to do this. As he does so, he feels an impact on the tower but can't see what caused it. Not a bird - it'd have to be a bird the size of a car. He also points out various ships on the river below. Servo asks John Doe to steer the tower away from them if possible...

Blitz zooms back up inside the tower and picks up Chronos then powers back down towards the exit.

The engines suddenly cut out and the tower begins to fall.

Servo gives commands to John Doe as to the best way to land the ship/tower. John Doe moves under the tower and turns into Avenger wearing rocket boots and attempting to lift the tower.

Blitz, Chronos and the two human captives bail out of the tower.

Servo, the only one left inside, ignites another one of his rocket packs and powers down the shaft and out of the tower shortly afterwards.

John Doe asks where to crash the tower. Servo tells him to use his skill and judgement. John Doe tells him he hasn't got any. Oops.

At the last moment John Doe moves out from under the tower and it hits the water not far from shore with an almighty splash, moves forward a bit, stops, and starts to sink.

John Doe moves to the nose again, and ignites his rockets again, pushing the nose of the tower towards the shore. It starts to move, very slowly. Servo flies down and assists.

They manage to turn the tower so that its nose is out of the water even when it sinks to the bottom. Fortunately it seems to be near to high tide, so it doesn't look like the tower will be entirely submerged.

Back at Canary Wharf (as distinct from its tower), Noesis flies down and hands the two unconscious humans he's carrying over to STOP. He explains that there is some danger they may turn into Brood. They are put into STOP high-security vans, like the Brood prisoners.

Canary Wharf without the tower

Noesis tells D.I. Dickinson that the Canary Wharf tower has landed in the Thames Estuary, by the north shore. Dickinson calls in STOP helicopters to go and assist the salvage. Noesis is given a lift to the scene in one of them (it flies faster than he does).

Back in East London, the abandoned cinema is starting to burn nicely now. Truth and the other Verity vacate the premises to an alleyway over the street. They discuss which of them is the impostor. Truth is sure she is the real one - she remembers everything, from childhood up to now, including gaining her powers. Unfortunately, the other Verity does too, and claims that as she is more like the Verity of old, she is the real one.

After a bit Truth calls the Fire Brigade to put out the cinema. They arrive with sirens wailing and start to do their job.

Truth and the other Verity leave. Truth tells the other Verity that she is going to live with her, as she lost Verity her place with the Salvation Army. Needless to say, the other Verity is not overly thrilled by this idea. Like Truth is going to give her a choice.

Truth goes invisible (as well as desolid) and follows the other Verity.

The STOP helicopters arrive at the crashed tower/ship, and Noesis flies over to the ship.

Blitz, Chronos and the other two humans land nearby, and the two humans are also handed over to STOP.

All of the London Knights who are there regroup. They go back into the down ship and search inside it to see if there are any Brood left, or indeed anything else of interest. When they get to the 'engine room' in the base of the tower the five big hexagonal pillars are starting to dissolve into silvery dust.

Cameras are brought in and footage is taken of this.

As the rest of the ship is searched, some Brood are found holed up in rooms full of air, but underwater. The group kindly force the doors and let the water in. The Brood drown and dissolve.

In the bulbous nose of the ship there is a small hanger with a couple of small aircraft or spaceships in it. They too are dissolving.

Perhaps all this dissolving is the same as that these Brood are doing when they die...

Back in East London the other Verity returns to the tower block flat to which Truth traced her earlier. She attempts to go to sleep, but Truth spends many happy hours harassing her and making her life hell - poking and slapping her as she tries to sleep, pouring glasses of water over her and all manner of cruel and vindictive things.

Eventually the other Verity becomes tired of this, gets dressed and goes out of the flat, followed (invisibly) by Truth. The other Verity is frothing with rage, but can't do anything to Truth. How frustrating.

The other Verity can't help but suspect that Truth is following, and shouts, apparently to the empty air, "SOD OFF!!" Strangely, there is no answer. Truth hopes that perhaps the other Verity will get herself committed by keeping up this behaviour.

"All right then," shouts the other Verity, "If you're Truth, then call me ... FICTION!'

Eventually they reach the river. The other Verity goes down to the beach and walks into the water. Truth follows her in, but the other Verity seems to blend with the water somehow and slips away like a silvery shadow, faster than Truth can follow. Oh well.

Truth returns to the flat and clears it out.

After a while of this she leaves and, having heard what the other have been up to, goes to catch a train to close by where the others are - near the town of Coryton, in Essex. After a while she arrives at the nearest train station and catches a taxi to the crash site.

Back at the ship, the media turn up, along with some STOP vans, and Truth getting out of a taxi.

STOP cordons hold the media back, but they want to know what's been happening. John Doe and Servo step forward, John Doe is his beautiful and impressive chrome demon form. They tell the waiting media about evil 'terrorists' trying to take over the world. The media ask lots of questions, which they fob off.

Chronos tells the media how much he missed his Nike running shoes. Brown nose. He hopes his advertising contract with them is still going.

Blitz adds that the London Knights did not tell STOP that it was all a false alarm once they'd stormed the tower six months ago.

And that's the end of the London Knight's statement.

Chronos disappears, running off back to London.

John Doe takes to the air, heading for Shepherds Bush, and the BBC, where he hopes to hire himself out as a special effect.

Noesis flies off the visit Professor Barker.

Blitz flies off towards London.

Servo and Truth walk off. Servo offers Truth his arm. She takes it. They get a lift back to London in a STOP helicopter. As they go, Truth gives Servo the several thousand pounds of 'Fiction's money she has appropriated, to be put into the group fund bank account.

Chronos goes to his flat and finds it deserted, electricity, gas, water and phone all disconnected, and a huge pile of letters on the mat - final demands for bills, and threatening letters from his mortgage company.

As he flies off, Noesis suggests that the London Knights tell the American supergroup, the Guardians about the Brood. Apparently STOP are already telling SAT, their US counterparts. He goes to Professor Barkers.

Blitz goes to the West London boat yard, 'Clarence Boats', to see about picking up the boat the London Knights had bought for three hundred thousand pounds just before they went into Canary Wharf - the 'Wilberforce Throckmorton Device The Second', owned by their front company - 'Wilberforce Throckmorton Device Limited'. The boat, a large ocean-going cruiser, has built up some hefty mooring charges, too - about ten thousand pounds. He is shown around by David Clarence, the owner.

John Doe flies down outside the BBC.

Servo and Truth get out of the STOP helicopter at Canary Wharf and go their separate ways. Servo goes to a bank and deposits some of the money Truth gave him. Then he goes to Colmar Technologies.

Noesis reaches Professors Barkers house, in Berkshire, just outside London. He knocks on the door, and is let in by Mrs Miggins, Prof. Barkers housekeeper. Prof. Barker is having breakfast. Noesis (dependent upon nutrient tanks) watches as he eats. They talk about what has happened. Noesis tells him everything, and asks for a number of improvements to his shell unit, and the removal of the extension it had acquired for his Brood egg. Prof. Barker is suitably impressed, and tells Noesis that he has already been working on an upgraded version of his shell, with various improvements, including some of those Noesis already wants. Fortunate.

John Doe walks into reception at the BBC, and asks for a job as a special effect and animal impersonator. The receptionist is somewhat perturbed, but polite. She calls down someone who might be able to help. After a while a short, plump bearded man arrives, and introduces himself as Bill Julian, BBC Special Effects Manager. He leads John Doe up to his office where John Doe demonstrates his abilities. Mr Julian is most impressed, and offers John Doe a post, though it will take a little while to sort out some work for him. They talk about salary. John Doe isn't bothered, being large self-sufficient, but Mr Julian insists, and says they'll give it to charity instead. They shake hands, and Mr Julian leads John Doe back to the foyer. He says he'll get in touch with John Doe via STOP once something has been arranged. Sweet.

A little later Chronos, Truth and Blitz meet up at the boatyard and have a look at the boat. At Chronos' request they go to the bank and use some group funds to pay off Chronos' mortgage arrears - more than one of the group has to be present at any such transaction to avoid individual members using the cash for something silly of which the other would not approve.

They pay off the back mooring charges on their boat, too, and have David Clarence take them for a ride up and down the river. The boat is very nice - large and luxurious. Hope it'll last...

Servo goes to Colmar Technology, surprises the receptionist, and goes to see Brian Clinton, his father-in-law. They discuss the take-over of Colmar Tech by Amtech and what to do about it. Servo suggests a reverse take-over, but Brian Clinton says he's looked into it and Amtech is not publicly owned, so that won't work, unfortunately. They decide to leave Colmar Technologies, hopefully taking its best and brightest with them and use their cover company, 'Wilberforce Throckmorton Device Limited' as a real company to set up all new products and patents. They discuss whether Amtech will give them trouble about Servo's armour, then decide to use it and take any trouble as it comes...
