Alan Trahurn was born in 1964, the second child of Graham Trahurn, a rich American industrialist who had worked his own way up from nothing into a leader in the field of specialised microelectronics. From a very early age Alan looked like he would follow in his fathers footsteps (unlike his brother and sister) as he showed a natural aptitude for electronics, most especially computers, on which he spent much time playing historical, tactical and strategic simulations.
By the age of six Alan could easily defeat all the available computer opponents, and so began to play human opponents over the general computer net. However, because of his extreme youth quite often he needed to hack into the net systems and change his identity so as to appear older, as otherwise it tended to be very difficult for him to get worthy opponents. As time went by he discovered that he also enjoyed hacking into computer systems purely for fun; several times he was caught in the act, but each time his fathers money, influence and lawyers got him off.
In 1973 the entire Trahurn family were in the SAU, visiting one of his fathers factories near the Chilean border. Unfortunately, while they were there the SAU tried unsuccessfully to take over the asteroid which the Chilean Empire had moved into Earth orbit. As the crisis proceeded Chilean forces crossed the border near the factory. SAU forces fought back, and in the ensuing combat the factory was destroyed, all of the Trahurn family apart from Alan with it. This event killed all emotion in the young Alan except a deep hatred for fascists and left only a hard, icy logic.
As Alan thought about what had happened he reasoned thus :
He also concluded that although superhumans may have incredible powers, the vast majority of them were insane, as even the supposedly 'good' ones did (in his eyes) little to help the people of the world in general. Thus they could not be trusted, and although he might use them as tools they would never become an integral part of his plans.
After reaching these conclusions Alan set out upon the path he had defined for himself, backed up by his families considerable fortune, which had fallen to him upon the deaths of the rest of the Trahurns. He entered the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, studying computing and science; he also took politics evening classes, joined debating societies and put himself through a gruelling physical regimen, training himself to the peak of human fitness. All during this time he kept his tactical skills well honed.
Alan excelled at everything he did, showing a knack for inventing and improving gadgets of all kinds. He quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant student but a social outcast, as his quest left him no time or inclination for social interaction.
After graduating with flying colours, Alan joined the US Army as an officer for two years in order to become more intimately acquainted with the military, and also to gain the expertise with weapons which would be necessary for the task ahead. Upon leaving the military Alan joined a mercenary brigade in the third world, and within two years had risen to become its head, mainly due to his huge tactical ability and oratorical skills. At the same time Alan was using his wealth and money which he had stolen via hacking from the bank accounts of several neo-Nazi organisations to invent equipment for himself - mainly a highly advanced (if very expensive) multi-purpose handgun and a suit of combat armour derived from (but more advanced and more expensive than) the powered armour used by several nations. While leading the mercenary group Alan carried out several operations for the CIA in order to gain contacts within the organisation. The most notable of these was destroying a target in Azania, which the Azanian government claimed was a baby-food factory but which was fairly obviously a centre where the Azanians were developing and building anti-matter weaponry.
He realised that a good media image would be a useful thing in the furtherance of his plans, and so set out to build himself one. This he did by leaving his mercenary group and taking the cream off to various places around the world to perform high-profile missions calculated to give him good standing with the public. These included freeing several hostages in Beirut and driving off Eurostar when the attacked Zurich. He also took the name Peacemaker in order to enhance his image. What no-one apart from Alan knew was that the name was taken not from the diplomatic activity but from the gun. Along the way he also teamed up with the superhuman know as the Dragon.
In late 1992 it became obvious that the Guardians, who had been trapped inside an invisible bubble of slowed time in New York's Central Park since late 1990, were speeding up and would probably soon be free. He and the Dragon were there when the bubble vanished, and introduced themselves to the group. Because of Alan's previous image-enhancing record he and the Dragon were accepted into the group.
Shortly after Alan joined the Guardians, the group decided to infiltrate Serbia in order to apprehend the Serbian government and bring them to the UN court of Human Rights for trial on War Crimes charges. The plan involved destroying one of the three major Serbian munitions factories outside Belgrade as a diversion, then in the confusion sneaking in and kidnapping the members of government involved in the atrocities. After this factory was destroyed, but before the government was apprehended the Guardians were discovered and attacked by the Serbs. In the process of escaping the Guardians took control of a Serbian (ex-USSR) grav tank, which unknown to the rest of the Guardians Alan programmed to destroy the remaining two Serbian munitions plants (which were also near Belgrade, but because they were closer to the city had not been chosen for the earlier diversion) then head for Sarajevo by a devious route, 'shooting at anything that moves' (later admitted to be a programming error by Alan) before destroying itself at the border with Bosnia. The Guardians then escaped while the tank flew off and caused more than 3500 deaths and many more injuries in a large swathe across Serbia. When they heard about this the rest of the Guardians then rendered Alan unconscious and took him (and themselves) off for trial on war crimes charges.
Alan was brought before an investigatory tribunal of the UN at European Stronghold in the Massif Central of France. There Alan confessed his responsibility, under truth drug, for everything which had occurred and also confessed to duping the Guardians into aiding him. He also used his oratorical abilities to the full in attempting to sway the court to his point of view, so that in the end due to this and several loopholes in international law he was set free, to the disgust of the Guardians. Within minutes he was recruited by the Bosnian government who had sent representatives, including the superhuman the Bastion of Bosnia, to the trial and was on his way to Sarajevo. This was what Alan had dreamed of - leadership of a country which would then act as his power base for his inevitable conquest of the world.
As soon as he reached Sarajevo Alan began work on a plan which would allow the Bosnians to win, despite being outnumbered and outgunned. Within a week he had completed and set in motion the plan, which in addition to the formation of a Greater Bosnia by the conquest of Serbia and Croatia included provisions to put the Serbians and Croatians on his side after the conquest by avoiding discrimination and martial law and bringing all three nations together as one. The plan also included provisions to ensure its success even in the event of his death and included several features designed to ease the conquest such as obtaining advanced weaponry from the former Soviet Union.
Unfortunately for Alan, after his plan went ahead he turned his eyes to the other civil-war riven European state, Minerva, to see what could be gained there to further his plans of world domination. As part of this he decided to hack into the Minervan AI Gaea. What Alan could not know was that two years before Gaea had been 'possessed' by Vladimir Zakminsky, a powerful psionic who was responsible for the entire Minervan civil war. When Alan hacked in Zakminsky was able to make contact with him, and after reading Alan's mind Zakminsky mind controlled him to come to Minerva to aid him there. Alan covertly left Sarajevo and made his way to the Minervan capital, Andorra la Vella. En route he managed to break free of the mind control for a moment and called the Guardians in an attempt to alert them to what was about to happen. However, Zakminsky had already called the Guardians and told them to ignore the next call they got; despite this the fact that the next call was from Alan Trahurn meant that the Guardians ignored him, and Zakminsky was quickly able to re-establish his control over Alan and get him to Minerva.
Once he arrived Alan soon set about making plans for the takeover of the whole of Minerva, to be followed by the whole world. He had already thought about how he would take over the world with Minerva behind him purely as an intellectual exercise, so his plan was not long in the making. The Minervan government forces soon began making inroads against the rebel forces and at the same time he began hacking into military systems around the world, with the aid of the Gaea AI, to bring them under his control. Once this was achieved (within two weeks) he then used his control to launch all the worlds non-submarine based strategic missiles; the fusion warheads were launched at their intended targets while the fission and antimatter warheads were launched out of the Earths atmosphere towards the sun. At the same time he fed false information into the military computers systems to deceive them into thinking they were under attack. Shortly before they were due to hit he used orbiting laser satellites to bring down the missiles targeted for Earth; unfortunately three missiles still hit their targets destroying Semipalatinsk in the former USSR, Grahamstown in Azania and the Lima-Callao conurbation in the Chilean Empire. More than five million people lost their lives in these unintended strikes and nearly as many in the wars which he stirred up.
Some time after the missile launchings the team of superhumans now calling itself the Ex-Guardians arrived in Minerva. They made their way to Andorra la Vella and fought their way into the central Minervan government command bunker, where Alan was ensconced. When they finally managed to defeat his guardian warbots he claimed to have broken out of the mind control he was under, and offered to deactivate the computer defence systems which would otherwise fire of the Ex-Guardians of they tried to leave. He was lying; this was in fact part of his plan to defeat the Minervan rebels; in preparation for his capture he had previously concealed several clones of the shrinking superhuman Crossfire about his person as insurance. The Ex-Guardians watched Alan closely as he did this; unfortunately this allowed Vladimir Zakminsky to impose powerful mind controls on them, to protect Alan and kill the Minervan rebel government.
The Ex-Guardians left and made their way the Barcelona, the rebel capital. There the mind control came into effect and the Ex-Guardians murdered the rebel government, along with the superhumans Lady Blue and Mercure. At the same time the Crossfire clones came out of their hiding places within Alan's armour and reconnected the rebels with Gaea. These things in combination essentially ensured that the rebels had lost. In disarray the Ex-Guardians fled, taking Alan with them. They knew where Zakminsky was after breaking free of his mind control, and were on their way to his location when a Chilean strike team stopped them with the intention of returning Alan to Chile with them. Alan threatened suicide (he had previously programmed Gaea to destroy the Chilean Empire in the event of his death) but things looked bleak for Alan and the Ex-Guardians when Solar Angel appeared and claimed Alan for herself as 'I have uses for him'. Alan was then taken away by Solar Angel with the departing words 'I'll Be Back' and has not been seen since.
Despite the general revulsion felt towards Alan Trahurn by most people, he did achieve several positive things. Following his plan the Bosnians were able to take over Serbia and Croatia, forming the Republic of Greater Bosnia. Despite the many atrocities committed against (and by) them they are presently following his plan for peaceful integration of the three nations. Although reviled elsewhere Alan is remembered as a hero by the entire Bosnian nation. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, Alan did achieve worldwide nuclear disarmament as part of his takeover of worldwide military computer systems. Only submarine systems escaped his forced launchings and with the current worldwide economic slump it is unlikely that most of the worlds nation can currently afford to re-arm. As a sideline to his launching military systems the world over are now disconnected from any control of strategic weapons systems - before Alan infiltrated them with the aid of Gaea it was thought that these systems were immune from infiltration of the kind he used; now they know otherwise the militaries of the world are taking no chances of it happening again.
Although average in actual physical looks something about Alan, perhaps the look in his eyes, made him stand out from the crowd. He was 6' tall, very muscular and well built with brown hair and eyes, and usually wore a unique suit of combat armour of his own devising, plus his unique handgun. Whatever his circumstances he always appeared to be fully alert and aware of what was going on around his at all times.
