Advancement :
Since the game started, the strength of Etienne's mind has increased significantly and she has taught herself the entire power of Advanced Pattern.
She was also responsible for spreading the power and existence of the Medieval Christian God across shadow and teaching all of these individual Gods to link up into a single, vastly powerful, cross-shadow entity capable of spreading across shadow by themselves. When push came to shove and she had to choose, she chose her God over her family, and after sending all of the other Amberites in Amber at the time to Hell is now a non-player character...
Background :
A Joan of Arc figure, she was a foundling who was raised as a farmers daughter on the Enchanted Earth, a world like that of Le Morte D'Arthur during a 100 years war between France and Byzantium, and which is also home to many mythical and magical beings.
From a relatively early age she began hearing voices, which told her how to perform sorcery and empower magical items, as well as how it was her destiny to free France from the Byzantians. Although these voices stopped after the strange storms which racked the Enchanted Earth four years ago, she still knew where her destiny lay.
At the age of seventeen she went out and because of her great martial and magical skill (surpassing all others) became the leading light of the defence of France against the Byzantian invaders, and especially their sorcerous leader, Julian Magnus.
In one year she had risen to the point of commanding the French army against the Byzantians, and now has them bottled up in the city of Aix, where she hopes to defeat them before reinforcements can arrive...
Spell Book :
Etienne's original spell book consisted of the following:
- Awe-Strike; a number of opponents may suffer temporary transfixation, loss of courage or confusion, and be unable to attack Etienne while they do so.
- Brightly Shine.
- Call Down a Thunderbolt.
- Cure Disease.
- The Enchanting Voice; calms the fears, persuades and lifts the anxieties of those who hear it.
- Heal Wounds.
- Instill Courage; in a large number of normal beings
- Remove Imperfections; from an artefact if as a racked spell, or over an area if done as a longer ritual.
- Summon a Column of Fire from the Sky.
- The Terrible Voice; demands obedience from the targets by fear and grandeur.
- Ward Off Evil Spirits; protection against magic-based creatures.
However, since the start of the game she has also developed some extra spells:
- Bid Boat To Fly; up to the maximum of a ten-man yacht or rowing boat.
- Bless; makes the soil and animals more fertile, buildings stronger, people less disease-prone and so on.
- Calm Tempest.
- Create Gate To Heaven.
- Create Gate To Hell; a modified version of the Create Gate To Heaven spell.
- Create Heavenly Host.
- Divine Protection From Fire.
- Entrap Mind; in a magical bottle.
- Featherfall; on falls as lightly as a feather, from any height, until touching the ground, when the spell is cancelled.
- GodSeed; allows God to grow and exist even in shadows which would not normally allow His presence.
- Part A Body Of Water.
- Remove Curse.
- Resuscitate.
- Summon Angel; this can be any type of angel, for example Guardian angel, Avenging angel, messenger angel, choral angel, warden angel and so on, but none of them can move between shadows.
- Summon Tempest.
- Undo Magic; orange flames appear and burn the magic from the target.
- Weaken Walls; via a thunderclap and/or earth tremor.

- Twenty Exploding Musket-Balls; for the arquebus, they explode on impact [Double Damage; one use each only, 50 minutes for one; 100 minutes for twelve]
- Magic Bottle; a mind-prison [actually part of the 'Entrap Mind' spell, above]
- Magic Nose-Bag for Electra [Mould Shadow Stuff - Always Full; 600 minutes]
- Phial of Holy Water [Inspiring of Courage, Healing and Resistance to Hostile Magic in the Drinker by Moulding of Shadow Environment; one use only, 300 minutes]
- Plate Armour; bullet-proof, light and tough [Resistant to Firearms; 200 minutes]
- Shield; of missile-catching [Resistant to Firearms; 200 minutes, Attract All Missiles to It by Moulding of Shadow Environment; 1200 minutes]

- Ring of Protection From Missiles [Mould Shadow Environment - Repel Missiles; 1200 minutes]
- Shoes of Flying; three pairs of [Double Speed; 200 minutes each]

She is also in possession of what Etienne now calls the Eye of St Clair (originally the Orb of the Red Mage of Mallen), a crystal ball which can rack up to twelve spells, and which allows the user to scry to distant places through it, seeing, hearing and sensing magic in those places. It also allows the user to cast spells through the scrying link to distant targets.
