"Now These Her Princes Are Come Home Again"

SESSION 4.19 - Constitutional Issues

Session 4.18   Index   Session 4.20

Notes Taken by Samantha and Alastair Beadle.

Godofos has left The Hospital where he was continuing the attempts to communicate with Jim, and has instead decided to reset the protective Trump Traps around his two hyper-Trump devices.

He Trumps to the Hyper-Trump fortress close to Amber, and is recognised and admitted by the guards there. He enters the Hyper-Trump device chamber, and spends some time resetting all of the Trump Traps there so that, rather than not working on all members of the Family of Amber, they now do not affect only himself, Whippoorwill, Caitlin and Jihx.

With this done, he uses the device to travel to the Amber Embassy in Chaos, goes to the Hyper-Trump chamber there, and begins to reset the Trump Traps there in the same fashion.

Back in the Hospital, Caitlin and Whippoorwill watch Jim as he is carried about by the large headless egg-carrying humanoid, 'Susan'. As they watch Caitlin tells him about her finding and meeting the Unicorn. She suggests that we keep this information a secret.

Whippoorwill, however, thinks that we should go to Random and use the information to persuade him to make some reforms while he still can, before the news gets out, and he basically has to abdicate.

During this discussion Jim and Susan have been wandering around the lab. Suddenly Susan starts to make distressed squeaking sounds.

Caitlin goes to investigate, and sees that Jim is attempting to merge with Susan; her flash is turning into the same colour and texture as Jim's. Before Caitlin can intervene Susan stops squeaking, and Caitlin senses her cease to exist as an independent mind. Jim/Susan then attempts to take a step forward, and falls flat on its face.

Whippoorwill places Jim on a hospital gurney and he and Caitlin wheel him down the corridor, intending to take him to a safe 'Early Learning Centre' shadow.

Caitlin follows, communicating with Jim and attempting to teach him how to walk.

Godofos, having finished restricting access to the Hyper-Trumps, leaves the Courts of Chaos and wanders off through shadow, looking for castles.

He finds none close to Chaos - the shadows there seem to be largely uninhabited. However, after some days travelling he begins to find inhabited shadows, some with castles. However, none of the ones he finds seem to be very stable.

He continues on through shadow.

In Amber, Jihx proceeds to see the King to present him with his Declaration and also to present the Chaos Ambassadors.

Arriving at the anteroom to the Throne Room, Jihx asks some of the servants there if he, Mnemosyne and Telemachus can speak to the King.

The servants go inside to ask.

After a few minutes the servants return, and tell Jihx that the King will see them now.

They enter the Throne Room, to see Random on his throne with Vialle beside him, Fiona off to one side, plus a few guards and some members of the Amber nobility.

Jihx approaches, bows a little, and introduces the two Chaosites, who both bow.

Random seems very happy to meet them and talks to them about the future. He tells them that the Amberites have yet to decide who will be Amber's Ambassador to Chaos, but that one will be sent as soon as possible. He then tells them that Cormorant Island, one of the Islands of the Sun off the coast of Amber a few miles to the north, has been set aside for the Chaosites.

He and the Ambassadors chat for a while.

When the conversation finishes, Mnemosyne and Telemachus bow to Random, and back away from the throne for a good twenty metres before turning to leave.

Jihx waits for them to leave the Throne Room, and then steps forward and presents one copy of the Declaration to a servant, who carries it up the dais to Random. Jihx reads the Declaration aloud in summary, then reads out the names of those who have signed it.

The assorted Amber nobility in the room are more than a little taken aback.

Random seems to take it seriously, and says he will have to consider it.

Fiona and Vialle are not best pleased.

Jihx stresses that if Amber is in need then he and the others will support it, but otherwise they will not.

As Godofos moves further away from the Courts of Chaos, he finds many castles that are ruined, infected by plague, infested with monsters and so on. However, eventually he finds a more suitable castle, on top of a steep-sided plug of rock (rather like the Devils Tower in Wyoming) with a river flowing around one side of it, and a large medieval walled city spread out around it. The castle flies a flag with a black boars head on an orange field. This seems to be what Godofos is looking for. The place looks well defended, and is anti-magical.

The guards at the gate look suspiciously at Godofos and stop him. They tell him that he cannot enter the city, which is named Thinwhistle, with weapons without paying the weapons tax.

Godofos gives them gold. They seem happy with this and let him in.

He heads through the city streets towards the castle. As he goes he notices that all the people of the city appear to be of an Amberite (that is, European) appearance, with dark hair. No-one in the city appears to have red hair like Godofos, and people stare at him as he passes. The city itself seems to be reasonably well-kept, but very Spartan in appearance with no decoration and indeed nothing beyond what is absolutely necessary anywhere.

Godofos stops a couple of pickpockets who try to rob him, and gives out gold to the first few beggars who accost him, ignoring the rest who try and get money out of him once word of his generosity gets around.

Arriving at the base of the rock upon which the castle stands, he finds a small shack. He goes in and finds a door set into the rock face. It is locked, with a hidden keyhole, but the power of the Pattern soon solves this problem, and Godofos unlocks the door. To be deluged by a flood of foetid water, rotten fish and other rubbish which rushes out as the door opens. It would appear that the tunnel beyond has been used as a rubbish tip for a long time. The inside of the door is metal and seems to provide a much better seal than the appearance of the door from the outside would indicate. Beyond the door a slimy dark stone-walled tunnel leads upwards.

Godofos lights a torch, goes in, locks the door behind him and makes his way up into the castle.

After a while pin-points of light appear in the corridor, and peering through Godofos sees that he is passing various parts of the lower castle, storerooms, dungeons and the like. Continuing upwards, Godofos finds that the tunnel stops at the castle's entrance hall.

He backs of and exits via a side door on a lower level into a small pantry area. As he leaves the room, a pair of guards inconveniently come around the corner and spots him. They immediately sound the alarm, shouting "Intruder! Intruder!" at the top of their voices.

Godofos allows himself to be taken into custody, and is escorted off to the Captain of the Guards by a dozen guards.

The Captain, a tough-looking, rather scarred middle-aged man, demands to know what he wants. Half of the guards come in with Godofos while half stay outside.

He asks to see the King.

The Captain and guards do not seem very impressed by this. The Captain tells the guards to escort the intruder to the dungeons.

Godofos triggers his ring to turn into its sword form, and while the guards stand there, reacting far too slowly, he kills three of them. Their blood splatters about the Captain's office.

Godofos asks them to take him to the King once again.

They ask him to stay there while they get permission.

Godofos agrees to this, and the Captain goes off, presumably to talk to the King.

Meanwhile, Whippoorwill, with Caitlin in tow, wheels Jim off to an 'Early Learning Centre' shadow on a gurney from The Hospital. The shadow has lots of primary colours and everything is padded for safety.

Jim flaps his (formerly Susan's) arms and legs in a very uncoordinated fashion as he is wheeled along.

Whippoorwill thinks that time is of the essence and we need to act on the information that Caitlin brought about the Unicorn.

Caitlin says she has already told Jihx.

That being so, Whippoorwill Trumps Jihx.

When Jihx takes the call, Whippoorwill tells him that he thinks we should use the information that the Unicorn is coming to Amber. He says we should tell Random that he should act to reform the political system of Amber while he is still King, as he will not be for very much longer.

Jihx agrees with this assessment. He tells Whippoorwill that the Declaration has been given to Random, and that he could not withdraw it at present. Even if he wanted to.

Caitlin joins the Trump link and suggests that it may be difficult to get Random alone to be able to speak to him regarding Whippoorwill's proposal.

Whippoorwill agrees that this may be a problem, and adds that we should involve Godofos in this.

We agree, and Jihx comes through to assist. The three of us then concentrate on Godofos' Trump, using the SuperTrump of himself he gave us.

Meanwhile, the Captain of the Guard has returned, and told Godofos that he may indeed speak to the King. He leads Godofos out of his office and through the castle, with a large escort of guards in tow. Godofos notices that even in the non-secret passages of the castle the stonework is rough, although well-made, and there is nothing to make the place less Spartan. Torches in undecorated metal sconces light the halls.

After a short walk, Godofos is led into the throne room, also a rough-walled chamber. At the far end, on a dais, he can see an old man in a crown seated on a plain wooden throne, the King. On the wall above him is a large orange banner with the black boars head of Thinwhistle emblazoned on it. Also in the throne room, behind the guards at the far end of the room, are a few other people who appear to be nobles. However, between him and the King are some two hundred guards, arrayed across the throne room, those in front with swords and spears, those behind with bows.

A Godofos stands there he feels a Trump call coming on. Given his situation, he does not accept it. Far away, the others eventually realise they are not getting through, and give up.

Although he is a long distance from the King, the Captain of the Guard tells him that he must speak to the King from here.

Godofos shouts a greeting to the King. The King speaks in return, but only in a whisper. A page repeats his words, shouting them down the throne room for Godofos to hear.

By this means, Godofos tells the King that he is his long-lost son, taken from here as a baby the King's enemies. This is, of course, a lie, but Godofos uses the Pattern to ensure that it is the truth here.

Godofos sees the King react in shock, then whisper something to page, who tells him that he can approach.

The soldiers move aside, creating a path from the door to the base of the King's dais, and Godofos walks up it to the dais, then up the steps to the King.

The King squints up at Godofos, and pulls out a small portrait that looks vaguely like Godofos. He looks from one another, then looks overjoyed. "Caralas, my boy, you have returned to us at last," he gasps. "My son is home at last."

He proclaims to all that 'Caralas' will rule after him. Then he gasps, clutches his chest, and dies, to gasps from all around.

Given the public nature of the King's last words, Godofos is proclaimed the new King, and sets about taking the reins of power.

Within the day, someone tries to poison him, but it has no effect on Godofos. Then some assassins attack, and are killed. It soon becomes clear that certain members of the nobility are unhappy with 'Caralas' taking over as King, obviously having planned to put one of their number on the throne when the old King died without an heir, and so are now trying to take over by less subtle means.

Over the next few days, Godofos purges the nobility of the obviously disloyal elements. There are many executions. This is helped by the Captain of the Guard siding with Godofos.

And after this stability begins to reign in Thinwhistle.

With these matters sorted out, Godofos requests some time with his father, and is escorted to a rough-walled Chapel in the depths of the castle. Once there, he has everyone else leave, then pulls out his SuperTrump of Whippoorwill and concentrates on it.

Back in the padded world, Whippoorwill suggests that he goes back to Amber and tries to arrange a time to speak to Random privately. Caitlin and Jihx agree that this is a good idea.

With this agreed, Whippoorwill pulls out Random's Trump and concentrates on it.

Jihx says tells Whippoorwill that he will contact him in an hour, then he too pulls out a Trump of the Rebma Castle Arrival Courtyard and concentrates on it too. Quite quickly he gets through, and steps through the link to Rebma.

After the Rebman guards allow him out of the Arrival Courtyard, Jihx continues on to a conference room where servants tell him Moire is working along with various of her advisors.

Upon entering, he tells them all the news, to widespread surprise. He also demonstrates his new-found shapeshifting skills to them all, developed from some of the lessons in shapeshifting he took while travelling to Chaos. He turns into his Avatar form, a humanoid made of bright light, and his War form, a seven foot tall very matt black demon, with red eyes and claws, but no horns.

Moire is very impressed by this (being a shapeshifter herself), but some of the others present are shocked by Jihx's shapeshifting.

Turning back into human form, Jihx tells her about the Declaration, and its delivery.

In return, Moire tells him the she and her advisors are discussing the implementation of the Republic of Rebma.

Jihx asks to talk to Moire alone, so she dismisses the advisors, who leave.

With the room empty, Jihx tells her that Caitlin has spoken to the Unicorn and that it was not the Unicorn of Amber that gave the Jewel of Judgement to Random.

Moire smiles, and says that she thinks this is good news. She tells Jihx that she wishes to tell Gerard, as he can be trusted with the information.

Jihx thinks that it would be best not to for now.

Moire says she will think on it, and kisses him.

They then talk about the whole Republic of Rebma idea, and how it is to be implemented.

In the Early Learning Shadow where Caitlin is trying is teach Jim how to walk, Jim is making slow progress, in that he has not learned to walk in a few hours. Some might say he was, in fact, making pretty good progress, although he is falling over a lot.

To help with the falling over, Caitlin moves Jim to Lunar Early Learning Centre shadow, where the gravity is much lower, so that he falls more slowly.

After some time there, Jim is learning to crawl.

Meanwhile, Random accepts Whippoorwill's Trump call, and the link opens up.

Whippoorwill tells him that he has some important news that he should tell Random at once.

Random considers this, then brings him through. Random is with Fiona, Bleys, Barquentine (the Amber Castle Master of Ceremonies), and various Castle guards in a small meeting room in the Castle Keep.

Whippoorwill says he would prefer to speak to Random alone.

Random agrees to this proposal, and indicates a door.

At that moment Whippoorwill feels a Trump call coming on, and from far away Godofos tries to Trump him. Whippoorwill accepts the call and tells Godofos that he is busy at the moment. He tells Godofos speak to Jihx or Caitlin instead. Godofos pulls out Jihx's Trump and concentrates on it.

Random leads Whippoorwill through the door and into a small sitting room.

Once the door is closed, Whippoorwill tells Random that we were sceptical regarding the Unicorn giving him the Jewel of Judgement, and so went in search of the Unicorn to get its side of the story.

He tells Random that Caitlin spoke to the Unicorn, who did not seem pleased at the news she brought, and that the Unicorn was last seen heading for Amber...

Random seems rather upset by this news and asks for a copy of Whippoorwill's proposed Amber Constitution. He then suggests that the Declaration be withdrawn, and asks Whippoorwill to contact Jihx.

This he does, concentrating of Jihx's Trump.

In Rebma, Jihx feels a Trump call coming on, and identifies the caller as both Whippoorwill and Godofos as they both try to Trump him at once.

Jihx accepts the call from Godofos first, and brings Godofos up to date on what is happening.

He then accepts the call from Whippoorwill while keeping the link to Godofos up. As Whippoorwill joins the link, Godofos begins to sense that their Trump link is once again being listened in on, so they all go through to Jihx in Rebma.

Jihx tells us that he thinks we will not be able to withdrawn the Declaration, as everyone who signed it will lose face by doing so before any concessions have been made.

Moire says she thinks that Gerard should be involved.

Godofos refuses to withdraw his name from the Declaration.

Jihx suggests that they need some common ground.

This is argued about for some time.

Godofos and Jihx think they cannot withdraw the Declaration.

Whippoorwill disagrees.

Godofos, Jihx and Moire argue their point and continue to refuse to withdraw their names. They will not withdraw and lose face after all that Random has done to us, believing that Random will lose face anyway as soon as he signs the new Constitution.

Whippoorwill argues for Random, and suggests that we ask him.

No-one disagrees with this, so he Trumps Random, and when the link is accepted, talks briefly to Random and then goes through.

Jihx thinks about contacting Caitlin, Lillian and Finndo Junior, but then decides against it.

Off in shadow, Caitlin moves Jim from Lunar Early Learning Centre to a protected, fast, but otherwise similar shadow.

Whippoorwill appears with Random in the private room he left from. He tells Random that the others are not happy to lose face over the Declaration, and that the episode of kidnapping seems to have set their minds against him. He asks if there is anything else that can be done that can stop the loss of face on either side, and suggests that a Constitutional Commission is set up to investigate the matter, on the basis that the others might give up the Declaration at that point.

Random suggests that they go back through to the others.

Before they do so, Whippoorwill asks Random if there is anyone that he could see as a replacement King, suggesting perhaps Benedict.

Random says that Benedict does not want to be King, as if he did he would be on the throne now.

They go back into the meeting room. Fiona, Bleys, Barquentine, and various Castle guards are still in there.

Random announces that reform of the Amber political system is going to happen. He continues to say that he is intending to set up a Commission to investigate matter, and names Whippoorwill to be it.

Fiona appears to be very shocked, and protests.

Whippoorwill again puts forward his idea of an elected King, and that Random is the Prince Regent for the two weeks until the election.

Fiona protests further.

Random says she cannot question him, as he is the King, and grins at her.

Fiona looks very unhappy.

With this done, Whippoorwill Trumps Jihx.

In Rebma, Jihx feels a Trump call coming on, and identifies the caller as Whippoorwill. He accepts the call, and Whippoorwill breaks the news to him. Jihx asks a few further questions, and Whippoorwill tells him that the Constitution allows for change if necessary, and that elections are to happen.

Jihx considers this, and agrees to ask the others to support the election. The Trump link goes down.

Godofos also agrees to support the election, then bids goodbye to everyone and Trump away.

He goes back to shadow Thinwhistle to set up his dictatorship, intending to provide himself with a harem, a rule which is harsh but fair with the masses, a loyal army and so on.

Upon his return he discovers that his appointed regent has been poisoned, but is still alive. He has the secret police track down the criminals - more rebellious nobles - and they are tortured until they spill the beans. They are then executed.

However, after a while it becomes clear that they were not in fact the real criminals, but people rounded up to get a results. However, King Caralas has saved face.

He then sets his forces to tracking down the real criminals, and once they have been found deals with them. Harshly.

Whippoorwill then tries to Trump Caitlin. However, she has unfortunately taken Jim into a Trump-proof shadow.

He Trumps out into shadow, calls down a bird of his desire, gives it an elaborate message and sends it off to her instead.

With that done, Jihx bids farewell to Moire and Trumps to Amber.

Upon arrival he goes to see the Chaos Ambassadors and tells them what has happened. That the elected Monarchy of Amber is on its way.

They seem pleased that "Amber is following the lead of Chaos."

Jihx then asks them about their plans for the Embassy, and offers his assistance should they need it.

Mnemosyne tells him that they are visiting Cormorant Island tomorrow.

Jihx asks to come with them.

They are happy to allow this. They comment that they will, with Amber's permission, probably bring some Builders from Chaos to assist with the construction of the Embassy.

When Jihx asks they also say they are more than willing to act as ambassadors from Chaos to Rebma.

Jihx says he will pass this on to Moire.

Out in shadow, after some tuition from Caitlin, Jim has turned him humanoid form into a more horizontal form, and grown more legs. He is now learning to walk rather like a large centipede.

As she watches Jim totter about, Caitlin notices a bird flying towards her. She intercepts this and reads the message it is carrying before eating the bird.

Knowing Jim will be safe in the shadow, she leaves it and Trumps Jihx.

In Amber, Jihx feels a Trump call coming on, identifies the caller as Caitlin, accepts the call, and tells her what has happened.

She comes through the link and joins him in Amber. They head for the Throne Room.

Meanwhile, also in Amber, Whippoorwill has gone in search of Benedict.

He finds him in his rooms. A servant admits him, and Benedict asks him to sit.

Whippoorwill does so, then tells him that the Unicorn is en route to Amber and that Random has agreed to the suggested change of Constitution. He then asks that he be allowed to nominate Benedict as King.

"No," says Benedict firmly.

Whippoorwill tries to persuade Benedict to stand.

"Which part of 'no' did you not understand?" Benedict asks. "Was it the 'n' or the 'o'?"

Whippoorwill tells Benedict that he hopes he will reconsider.

Benedict says he will not.

That being so, Whippoorwill asks who would be the most suitable as monarch, and who would unify Amber.

"None of us have respect for one other," says Benedict. He suggests Gerard or Florimel as a choice, or perhaps Martin. Whippoorwill suggests that Jihx would unify Amber and Rebma.

Benedict gives no clue as to his preferences, if any.

Whippoorwill thanks him, takes his leave, and exits stage left.

Whippoorwill then goes to visit Vialle.

He finds her in her office, working. She greets him, and tells him that she has heard the news.

Whippoorwill tells her that he never thought of Random as an unsuitable King.

Vialle's expression is neutral.

He then tells her about the Unicorn heading this way, and suggests that that is the reason for Random's actions.

Whippoorwill tentatively suggests that Vialle could be nominated as Queen.

Vialle's eyes widen as she considers this possibility.

After a little discussion she agrees to stand if she is nominated. "For the good of Amber."

Whippoorwill says that he would nominate her, but fears that this may 'contaminate' her candidacy. He wonders whether Benedict could be convinced to nominate her.

After some further discussion they conclude that the most likely way to convince Benedict to do this is to get Random to ask him to.

Whippoorwill then decides that he has 'meddled' enough, says so to Vialle, thanks her, and departs.

By now Godofos has largely re-established his position in shadow Thinwhistle.

He has learned quite a lot about the shadow too. It is relatively Spartan, poor and basic, lacking in the sort of luxury to be found in Amber and the Golden Circle. However, this is the way Godofos wants it. There are other nations on Thinwhistle's world, with whom they war from time to time.

As he cements him position, 'Caralas' starts to reward his supporters to keep them loyal. Not wanting to be flash in such a Spartan place he gives out titles and land rather than anything else.

He then begins to raise an army.

Whippoorwill also intends to head back out into shadow to rally his forces. He is intending to have a large force in the vicinity of Amber for the next few weeks. He starts to concentrate on a Trump.

Caitlin and Jihx reach the Amber Throne Room, and servants announce them as they go in. Random is seated on the throne, with Vialle at his side and Fiona, Bleys and several Amber nobles in attendance.

Jihx steps forward and announces, on behalf of all its signatories, the withdrawal of the Declaration. He also declares his unconditional loyalty to Amber and its King.

"Yeah, what he says," Caitlin says.

Random accepts their declarations, and thanks them for them.

At this point a hubbub is heard outside the Throne Room.

Concentrating on a Trump of somewhere in shadow, Whippoorwill also hears this hubbub. Investigating, he sees a crowd of people gathered near the Throne Room.

He asks one of the crowd what is happening.

"It appears that the Unicorn is here!" one of them shouts excitedly.

"She's late," comments Whippoorwill.

The members of the crowd show astonishment at his.

"You don't think things like this happen without us knowing about it, do you?" responds Whippoorwill, and walks on through the crowd towards its centre.

Jihx and Caitlin see the doors to the throne room fly open, and there is Prince Julian in his white scale armour, helmet on, and sword drawn.

"Your Highness, King Random," he says. "Wondrous news! The Unicorn of Amber is here!"

Pushing his way through the crowd, Whippoorwill arrives in the Throne Room behind Prince Julian, along with Florimel and Caine who he notices are also pushing their way through the crowd. They all hear Julian's announcement, and push on.

Quickly reaching the front of the crowd, they see, standing behind Julian, the rather small Unicorn of Amber, which is looking towards the Throne.

Julian steps to one side and the Unicorn trots in and moves slowly towards the throne. It is very quiet.

Whippoorwill, Florimel and Caine follow it in.

Bleys and Fiona look on apprehensively.

At this point Jihx begins Trumping Godofos, and Caitlin begins Trumping Gerard, as they think they might like to witness this.

Caitlin quickly gets through the Gerard and tells him what is going on. Jihx has to work harder, but eventually gets through to Godofos. Both of them come through to witness the Unicorn's parade towards the throne.

Upon arrival, Gerard Trumps through Lillian and Finndo Junior. Bleys Trumps in Benedict, who then Trumps in Martin and Llewella. Martin Trumps in Vialle. All are in place as the Unicorn trots up the steps of the dais towards Random.

Random stands as the Unicorn gets to the top of the dais. "Greetings," he says to it.

Suddenly there is a flash of the Unicorn's horn, Random's pocket is torn open, and the Jewel of Judgement is hanging from the Unicorn's horn. The Unicorn stares at Random.

Whippoorwill steps forward. "Your divine majesty!" he says to the Unicorn.

The Unicorn turns to face Whippoorwill.

"May I appraise you of the events of the last few days in Amber?" Whippoorwill continues. "The man that stands before you is only the Prince Regent of Amber, who stands in this role until an elected King takes the throne. It would be a blessing if you would lend your support to this process."

The Unicorn looks at Whippoorwill for a moment and then dips its head. The Jewel of Judgement slips off its horn and to the floor.

The Unicorn then looks around and trots out of the Throne Room. No-one gets in its way.

"What the hell is going on?" demands Julian.

"I contacted the Unicorn and told it what had happened, and it was not best pleased," explains Caitlin helpfully.

"YOU MEAN THAT SOMEONE FAKED THE UNICORN?!" roars Julian. He is clearly outraged by this. His gaze sweeps around the room, falls briefly on Random but passes back to Fiona and Bleys, settling finally on Bleys.

He then throws his sword across the length of the Throne room: "Traitorous Scum!" he roars.

Florimel gasps - helpfully!

Jihx concentrates on something, casting a spell as best as he can in Amber. Julian's sword flickers slightly and jumps half an inch to one side.

The sword nicks a couple of Amber nobles as is passes across the Throne Room, severing at least one arm as it goes, and then hits Bleys.

Bleys manages to move slightly aside before the sword hits, so it misses the centre of his chest and instead gouges a deep gash in his side. He falls in a shower of blood.

"Oh!" goes Fiona, in surprise and distress.

"That will teach him!" whispers Godofos, and remains where he is standing.

Shouts and screams go up from the crowd.

Julian stands defiant and stares accusingly at Random, but pointedly not at Fiona.

Whippoorwill advances to assist Bleys, but as he gets there Bleys and Fiona disappear in a purple Trump rainbow.

Guards rush to assist the injured.

Whippoorwill, Jihx, Caine and Gerard are heading for the Jewel of Judgement.

"Hold! Perhaps we should leave it in the hands of the Regent?" Whippoorwill suggests.

Gerard is closest. "Very well," he says. "Random..."

He picks up the Jewel and hands it out to Random.

Random accepts the Jewel and puts it into his undamaged pocket.

"What is to be done about what has happened here?" Whippoorwill asks.

"Does anything have to be done," Jihx asks. "Surely we continue as before, as has been agreed?"

Whippoorwill berates Julian for attempting to murder Bleys.

Julian defends his actions, arguing that only Bleys could have faked the Unicorn, but does not really seem to care what Whippoorwill thinks.

Both Caine and Godofos support Julian's actions.

However, Random also berates Julian for what he did.

Jihx suggests that perhaps the slate should be wiped clean. This is, after all, only one violent action of many in the last few weeks.

There is a little discussion of this, and it is agreed that no further action shall be taken on any of these issues until the next King has been elected. Phew. Of course, Bleys and Fiona do not know this at present...

As medics enter the Throne Room and begin to treat the injured, Whippoorwill assists with the first aid, then Trumps them to The Hospital for further treatment.

The crowd in the throne room begins to disperse...
