Adam von Drakulich, childe of Fiona

Background

Adam was born to an aristocratic family in the eighteenth-century magical shadow of Malkania. Most of the nations of Malkania are mageocracies, ruled by the magically strong, and as such Adam, and his parents, were mages, and he was trained as such from birth. In Malkania most mages were also members of the Hellfire Club, and Adam's parents were no exception, ranking highly in the Club. Although he did not attend very often, Adam was occasionally permitted to observe their meetings from a safe distance. He learnt a lot from this, little of it good...

When Adam was ten, an alliance of the nations adjacent to Malkania declared war, and after a long, hard struggle, Malkania was defeated. The country was torn apart by the invading armies, fire and ruin everywhere. Adam's parents were killed by rampaging mobs during this time, but Adam himself was able to escape, in disguise, with two of his servants Mehitabel and Ezekiel, and become one more faceless refugee on the road. He hated this, but there was little he could do.

Meanwhile, in Amber, Fiona and Clarissa were having a disagreement. Clarissa had expressed an opinion that child vampires, such as Llewella, would always be mad, like her. Fiona disagreed, saying that Llewella's madness was a product of Moins and her having walked the Ash Pattern. They agreed an experiment to decide the issue.

Fiona went into shadow and, after some searching, found Adam. She helped him, and explained that she could, if he wished, make him powerful, and immortal. He instantly agreed to this, and so was made a vampire.

Returning to Amber, he walked the Blood Pattern, and has become quite skilled with it. He also developed, of himself, the basics of Beast-Mastery. When she saw this, Fiona arranged for him to be further trained with Julian.

And he has not gone mad, or at least no madder than any other vampire, thus proving Fiona's point...

Adam came to find out about Fiona and Clarissa's bet, and was not happy. However, he loves his vampiric existence and so is willing to let matters lie. For now. He still gets on well with Fiona.

He has been a vampire, and in Amber, for a little more than fifty years now.

As such he was involved in the various battles against Chaos, and in particular his abilities proved useful in the fighting down at the Courts of Chaos, where he was able to bend the creatures of the shadows there to his command.

Description

Adam was a ten-year-old boy when he was granted the Becoming. And that is, of course, how he appears today. He is fair-skinned and handsome, with blonde hair and blue eyes. In terms of attitude he is studious and polite, but also cruel, in a pulling-wings-off-flies kind of way.

Points Expenditure

Adam's Spells

• Attack Reflection - surrounds the target and reflects any physical or magical attacks made on them back at the attacker, who is affected normally.
• Decontaminate - removes all traces of radiation, toxins and disease from a specified area.
• Defensive Psyche Ward
• Exsanguinate
• Flamethrower
• Flight
• Force Armour - surrounds the target with armour of transparent force, resistant to most forms of attack.
• Invisibility
• Magic Drain
• Mind Touch
• Paralysis - like Stone Binding, but the target remains conscious, merely physically and mentally paralysed.
• Rain of Ivory Spears - what it says; the spears are heavy, and fall at high speed into a defined area.
• Ray of Sun - like Flamethrower, only using sunlight. The light can be shaped into a wide beam of light, or focussed as finely as a laser beam.
• Replicate Shadow Object
• Scrying
• Teleportation

Shadow Rattenmundus and Adam's Rats

Rattenmundus is a post-holocaust world, all of who human inhabitants were killed off in a nuclear, biological and chemical war, leaving the world to the rats and cockroaches. The landscape is desolate, with many dead forests and ruined cities. Time there runs four times faster than in Amber, and magic works there.

Adam keeps some rooms and magical laboratory in s surviving part of an otherwise ruined mansion there. Elsewhere in the mansion he breeds a particularly vicious type of mutant 'super-rat', partly because he like them, and partly because they are useful. He has introduced some of these rats into the sewers of Amber, to see how they do, and always has some close to him...

He has a Trump of shadow Rattenmundus, provided to him by Fiona.

Adam's Skills

In addition to Sorcery and Beast-Mastery, Adam know stage magic, prestidigitation and so on, disguise skills, stealth, acting, riding and how to move in polite society.

Adam's Familiars

He has a dozen or so familiars which he has created over time. These consist of:

• One bat.
• Three birds (a hawk, a crow and a sparrow).
• A cat (a tabby).
• Four dogs (various breeds, but all large and dangerous).
• One otter.
• Two rats (from Rattenmundus).
