FRANCE PLUS DU SUD

The French territory in Antarctica. Its territory includes the South Pole, claimed by France in 1888 after French explorer Antoine de Laclos became the first to reach it.

THE NEW SHETLAND ISLANDS

A Scottish colony founded in 1821 in the southern Indian Ocean on the islands known in the real world as Kerguelen. Originally a penal colony, over time it has expanded into a fully-fledged community in its own right despite the inhospitable environment in which it is located.

When founded the New Shetlands subsisted on mainly on whaling, seal hunting and the raising of sheep. Over time only the latter has continued, and agriculture has also been developed, farming the indigenous New Shetland cabbage and other crops. Because of the constant strong winds in the New Shetland most agriculture uses either windbreaks or planting in slots excavated in the ground. Some coal mining also takes place on the New Shetlands, although the low quality of the coal means that it is exclusively used in the New Shetlands themselves.

The New Shetlands are also known for their high density of wind turbines, which power almost the entire community there.

NOVA TIREE

The Scottish territory in Antarctica, to the south of the New Shetland Islands, claimed by them in 1895.

QUEENSLAND

The Anglo-Danish territory in Antarctica, to the south of South America, claimed in 1890 in response to the French claim on France plus du Sud. It is the only Antarctic possession of any nation where there is significant resource extraction and exploitation taking place, the Anglo-Danish Empire being more advanced in this field than any other nation in the world.

TERRA DO MARIA

The Brasealean territory in Antarctica, claimed in response to the Anglo-Danish claiming of Queensland and lying to the east of it. It is named after the Portuguese Queen of the time.

THAÑNÎR NAD

The Dakshina Nad territory in Antarctica, south of India and Marege, claimed by them in 1896. Its name means the Land of Cold Water. Since the end of the Long War and the increasingly widespread use of long-term life-support systems designed for use in space, there have been the beginnings of large-scale permanent colonisation of Thañnîr Nad.

YAKHARAZI

The Mughal Subah (province) in Antarctica, west of Nova Tiree, claimed by them in 1896, shortly after the Dakshina Nad claimed Thañnîr Nad. Its name means the Land of Ice. As with Thañnîr Nad, since the end of the Long War and the increasingly widespread use of long-term life-support systems designed for use in space, there have been the beginnings of large-scale permanent colonisation of Yakharazi.
