AXIS WORLD CHAMPIONS

TIMELINE PART 3 (1942 TO 1948)

Timeline Part 1   Timeline Part 2

1942:

The Rio de Janeiro Protocol gives Peru the largest part of the territory disputed between it and Ecuador.

Iceland signs a neutrality pact with Germany.

The SS commander of the General Government Area dies in an accident.

The Nazis begin to use prisoners of war for forced labour.

More superhuman-led uprisings against the British greatly aid the Japanese as they invade India. The British are forced back to the north and south, so that eventually they are reduced to guerrilla war from the southern jungles and the mountains of Nepal. In Afghanistan British forces co-operate and eventually merge with Soviet forces from over the border against the Nazis. Some Afghans also work with the British and Russians, though most revert to their traditional lifestyle. Most of India is in anarchy. Millions die in religious and ethnic conflicts.

Eventually Japan holds much of the east of India, from Kakinada on the coast, up the Godavari river to Nagpur, then to Jabalpur, Allahbad, Varanasi and along the river Brahmaputra. Thousands of refugees flee south, although they are strafed by Japanese aircraft. Many sail from southern India, attempting to get to Australia or South Africa.

The first Me-262 jet fighter flies. After initial tests it is put into production in parallel with the He-280.

The worlds first production helicopter, the Fl-282 Kolibri, goes into service in Germany in an observation role.

The Me-264 ultra-long range strategic bomber (sometimes referred to as the 'Amerika Bomber') flies for the first time.

Rumours begin to surface that various concentration camps are haunted. Occasionally camp guards go mad or commit suicide. The SS Black Angel Brigades begin to replace other troops as camp guards. Certain battlefields and sites of massacres also gain a reputation as haunted.

A junta of three superhumans, Dr Destiny, Firestorm and Lillith, takes over Peru. They are Revelationists, intent on rebuilding the purifying the country so that its population is ready to face the Lords judgement when it inevitably arrives. They have a large number of supporters, as well as angels which Dr Destiny seems capable of summoning. Foreigners are expelled and the borders of Peru closed. Reports which filter out indicate that the country is being 'cleansed' and rebuilt into what the junta think is right to face the coming judgement.

July

German forces reach and capture the Soviet oil fields of the Caucasus as well as the city of Stalingrad.

Several British superhumans stage an assassination attempt on the German government, and Goering in particular. They fail, and the survivors are executed with field guns. Two members of SG-Omega and one of E-Macht die in the attack and are hailed as heroes of the Reich.

September

Several Jewish superhumans escape from the Nazi 'resettlement program' and reveal that the deportees are actually being exterminated. However, most of the worlds press greatly plays this down. Jewish uprisings and underground groups hiding Jews or smuggling them elsewhere begin to appear.

The worlds first production transport helicopter, the FA-223 Drache, comes into service in Germany.

Famine occurs in western India. Riots and looting occur in Karachi, Lahore and Ahmadabad. Forces led by several superhuman warlords, some claiming to sent from or incarnations of God fight over the cities.

November

SS Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich, organiser of the deportation of the Jews, dies in a car accident.

14th December

The first FZG-76 [real world V-1] flying bomb flies at the Peenemunde rocket research base.

Albert Einstein is found dead at his home.

At the Auschwitz concentration camp three shadows come to life and murder their owners.

Several warlords, both superhuman and not, struggle for control of Afghanistan and north-west India. The unrest they create spreads to the southern republics of the USSR.

Japan invades Indonesia. For the first time they use multiple-launch rocket systems, which prove very effective. Thousands of refugees flee southwards towards Australia. In the firestorm bombing of Jakarta a superhuman, some kind of burning figure nicknamed 'Phosfiend', is created and rampages around the countryside.

The US starts to turn away refugee ships from the UK, claiming it is unable to support this number of immigrants. The domestic situation in the USA continues to worsen.

514 people die in a fire at the Coconut Grove night-club in Boston, USA.

At the Pan-American Conference in Rio, Argentina, Chile and Venezuela decide to ally themselves with the Axis.

Turkey remains neutral.

The Arab High Committee assists Axis forces (mainly Italian) in rounding up Palestinian Jews and other 'undesirables'. Many other Arabs side with the Axis as it takes control of the Middle East. Leaders of the Jewish Agency, the executive body of the World Zionist Organisation, based in Palestine, are shot. The Jewish Irgun and Palmach terrorist groups fight back, despite reprisals. As time passes the two groups unite, and also work closely with British-led resistance groups.

Superhuman-led ethnic conflict occurs between Tamils and others in Siam and south-east India.

Tens of thousands of Britons die of cold and starvation over the winter.

1943:

7th January

Nikolai Tesla found dead in a New York hotel room.

'Phosfiend' is captured by the Japanese and taken back to Japan for study.

Rumours of totally black roses forming an impenetrable thicket in a gas chamber at the Belzec concentration camp, and on a nearby mass grave, surface. Apparently these roses can be cut and burned, but always grow back. Several soldiers are 'swallowed' by the thickets before it is ordered that they are fenced off and guarded.

February

PM Halifax surrenders the UK to Germany. Much of the Royal Navy scuppers itself; some surrenders, some goes 'rogue'. The British, Dutch, Norwegian and French Royal Families and governments flee to Canada.

Napalm is invented.

Nerve gas is invented.

Scientists around the world begin to die in 'accidents'.

German forces land in the UK, assisted by the remainder of the Royal Navy. 'Dissident elements' of all kinds are rounded up, along with members of the armed forces. A number of members of the British intelligence services are executed for their involvement in the assassination of Hitler. One British superhuman is captured; the others go underground. By the end of June he has thrown in his lot with the Nazis and become a collaborator. Thousands of Britons die in clashes with the German occupying forces. Oswald Moseley is appointed Prime Minster by the Germans. Goering is driven in triumph through London.

The first combat jet aircraft, the Me-262, is introduced into service. It soon proves it superiority over most other types of fighter.

Ireland is united under a puppet IRA government.

'Phosfiend' escapes from Japanese custody, killing large numbers of troops before being driven off by a member of the Eternal Legion. It flees into China.

The Japanese Mitsubishi J8M1 Shusui (Rigorous Sword) rocket fighter flies for the first time.

After a battle between Japanese and Australian ships in the Marshall Islands, a small coral atoll nearby is found to have disappeared.

With Germany occupied by taking over the UK, the USSR tries a counterattack on the Germans. Although they initially push back the Germans, several actions by E-Macht and some Me-262s rushed to the front drive the Soviets back. Moscow is taken. The Soviet government flees beyond the Urals. More evidence of Soviet atrocities is exhibited by the Germans.

21st June

The Philadelphia Naval Yard is destroyed by a group of eight illegal immigrant superhumans, along with several ships, including the destroyer the USS Eldridge. Dozens of people, especially scientists, are killed by the superhumans who then flee after setting fire to the base.

The US government hand over two British superhumans who had fled the UK after being accused of crimes against the Reich. They are executed.

Several US cities are placed under martial law due to the continuing disturbances there.

An independent Kashmir is proclaimed by the leader (considered by many merely a warlord) who now rules that area.

28th December

A huge figure in some kind of powered armour attacks the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute in Berlin. Otto Hahn, the scientist who split the atom, Strassman, his co-worker and Professor von WeizsÉcker, all of whom are performing work under the auspices of the War Office, are murdered in their labs, along with their assistants. The armoured figure escapes. All notes relating to the research being carried out in the lab cannot be found.

30th December

Lise Meitner, an ex-collaborator is Hahn and Strassman, is found to have disappeared from her Stockholm home.

After several attacks by resistance forces, five British towns are destroyed under the Family Hostage Law.

After Bolivian troops begin to mass on the Peruvian border, the Bolivian government are found dead after a cabinet meeting. Their replacements call off the planned military action.

Membership of the Hitler Youth or League of German Girls is made compulsory for young people all over occupied Europe, with harsh penalties for failure to comply.

December

Nazi forces, mainly SS Black Angel brigades, move to destroy the Jewish ghetto in Warsaw after an uprising by the Polish resistance. Both SG-Omega and E-Macht join the fighting as the battle wears on. Although the ghetto is badly damaged, the resistance does not give up. Several Jewish superhumans fight off the Nazis, along with a number of golems. The valkyrie Hrist arrives late in the battle and after killing the SS leader, stares down an entire SS battalion, making them back off and regroup. She harangues them about honour and courage. Eight SS men kill themselves there and then; it is later found out that four others have committed suicide, and an undisclosed number deserted. Again she 'sends the worthy dead to Valhalla'.

The ghetto is not destroyed and declares itself independent, naming itself Israel. Somehow (magic?) the German bombardment has no apparent effect on the ghetto, and it does not appear to starve. Radio Israel starts to broadcast to Europe.

Famine occurs in the Japanese-held areas of India. Several attempted uprisings are brutally put down by the Japanese.

Refugees from all over the world, including several superhumans, start to travel to Australia. Most of these refugees are from India, Indonesia and south-east Asia.

A huge sea serpent is photographed in the Indian Ocean.

A research lab at Gottow in Germany, run by a Professor Diebner under the Ordnance Department, is destroyed.

Japan invades Australia. The city of Darwin is taken after a firestorm raid on the city. Australian forces, aided by many of the refugees from the north, who have been drafted, manage to stop the Japanese from invading much more than Arnhem Land. In a sea battle off the northern coast of Australia, a huge sea serpent appears and scatters the ships, destroying several of them.

The American scientist Robert Oppenheimer and his family are found to have disappeared.

Something huge, monstrous and apparently unstoppable forms, reportedly from thin air, in the Chelmno concentration camp in the General Government area. It casually breaks out and rampages across the countryside towards Berlin. E-Macht and SG-Omega are rushed in, along with an experimental walking tank, der Titan, created by das Eisen Ritter. Halfway to Berlin, the Titan grapples with the monster and although it is destroyed, allows the other superhumans to destroy the creature. Four superhumans also die in the incident.

German FZG-76 [real world V-1] missiles are first used, against Soviet forces.

A research lab at Linden in Germany, run by a Professor Esau under the Education Ministry, is destroyed.

An improved version of the Me-163 rocket fighter, the Me-263, is tested. It soon enters service as a short range interceptor, and even proves useful against flying superhumans, due to its sheer speed.

The first electronic computer is constructed in Germany.

October

The Ar-234 Blitz jet-propelled reconnaissance bomber enters service with the Luftwaffe.

It becomes obvious that the Japanese are forcing foreign scientists from the areas they control to carry out research for them, generally under tight control. In addition to this they are kidnapping scientists from the USSR, China, India and Australia and luring other scientists to Japan with high pay and good wages. This apparently arises from the feeling that they are being left behind in the technological race with Germany. The Germans suspect that the Japanese were behind the death of the nuclear scientist Otto Hahn and the USA that they kidnapped Oppenheimer, though there is no evidence for either accusation.

November

After his lack of success in solving Americas problems, Lindbergh is replaced as US President by Burton K. Wheeler, another isolationist. Several incidents of election-rigging, some of them superhuman-related, occur during his campaign.

Portugal allies itself with the Axis.

December

The first VTOL jet fighter, the Focke-Wulf Triebflugel, flies in Germany. Although difficult to control, especially on takeoff and landing, it proves useful for operations where airfields are scarce.

It becomes obvious that many of the areas of eastern Europe the Nazis occupy, and the areas of Asia the Japanese occupy are barely controlled, with the occupied areas consisting of towns and the area around them, with much of the countryside under no control or the control of partisans.

Australia begins to suffer problems in feeding the increasing number of refugees there. Refugees begin to be diverted to New Zealand.

1945:

January

Following pressure applied to Canada by Germany via the USA, the Royal Families and governments in exile there are forced to move to Australia.

The Warsaw businessman Oscar Schindler is found to be running a smuggling ring into Israel (the Warsaw ghetto), for both material and people. He flees there upon discovery.

Famine occurs in northern India and western China.

Soviet agents steal a Heinkel design for an advanced but cheap and easy to build jet fighter. Within months it appears in the Soviet Air Force as the 'Peoples Fighter'. From captured examples Japan also acquires the design.

The advanced Ju-287 jet propelled bomber flies for the first time.

An uprising against the Japanese occurs in Indonesia after many people are deported as labour for the Japanese war machine. When the forces to regain control of the volatile areas cannot be brought in in time, Japanese forces use poison gas against the rebels. Thousands die.

1946:

1st April

An earthquake in the Pacific sends tsunami over the whole ocean.

May

The first intercontinental range jet bomber, the Junkers EF-130, flies in Germany. It soon goes into production.

11st March

It is noticed that the Egyptian Sphinx has somehow been restored to its original unaged form overnight.

Peruvian forces unexpectedly move into Ecuador. The superhumans of the Junta, plus two others, move with them. After fierce fighting the country is taken. As in Peru, foreigners are expelled and the borders closed in preparation for the countries 'purification'.

Sweden allies itself with Germany.

October

Following negotiations between Germany, Italy, Spain, Vichy France and Turkey, Europe, Africa and the Middle East are divided up amongst them. The SS obtain the Burgundy area (Cote-d'Or, Saone-et-Loire and Yonne) from France as their private preserve and start 'rationalising' Germanys new African possessions. Clashes occur against the rebels in the former Belgian Congo. Turkey signs a number of agreements with Italy and Germany ensuring supplies of oil from the Middle Eastern oil fields.

Famine occurs in most of India, China and parts of the 'free' USSR.

After a series of epidemics in 'free' China and the USSR, rumours surface that Japan is using biological warfare. This is denied.
