Antarctica is divided up amongst France, the Union, the Dutch, Zululand, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, the OSU and the Northern System in the later twentieth century by means of 'normal' colonisation. There are a few coastal settlements, some of them penal and/or mining colonies. There is no overall treaty regarding the continent beyond those formalising its division, so there are mining and environmental problems in some places. Mining colonies have mostly been set up by dictatorial nations after minerals were discovered there; France has the most of these.

Oranjeland

The Dutch colony in Antarctica, including part of the coast and area around the south pole itself, which the Dutch were the first to reach, and claim, in 1920.

Shakaland

The Zulu colony in Antarctica. It the Zulu New Frontier, and many resources are directed at its conquest.

Williamsland

The part of Antarctica claimed by the Union.
