Walked down the steps from Tir-na Nog'th five years ago. He has no memory of events before that. He only remembers his childhood in a faerie land named "Arcadia". He knows that his father was called "Osric". Basically he is a mystery.
"I was born in Arcadia - the faerie kingdom. My father was an elder, 'Osric' was his name. He was much respected, inasmuch as respect has any meaning in Arcadia. My mother was Diedre, the young and beautiful daughter of Oberon, the King of faerie land.
"Yes, the names of my family are strangely similar to the names of the family of Amber. I cannot explain it. Clearly I have the blood of Amber, I think I get it from my father. He always seems somehow more real and substantial than my mother or grandfather. But who can tell whether they were shadows or no. I love them, and that is enough for me.
"A faerie's childhood is a mysterious and insubstantial thing. Sometimes it last a day. Sometimes a thousand years. I spent centuries gambolling in summer meadows, jousting with anonymous knights, taunting mortals in the nearby mundane realms. Dancing with nymphs and sprites. Making music with the birds. Listening to stories of pranks, and high adventures, searching for four-leafed clovers and the Holy Grail.
"It's hard to explain. This realm of Amber is so... linear, so ordered, that it lacks even the language to describe the experience of living in Arcadia. It was a place of wonder.
"Later... ("later" and "earlier" have different meanings in Arcadia than they do here. I can't explain it properly - sometimes "later" happens before "sooner", and sometimes... otherwise) ...later, as I grew older, a dark time came.
"I can't remember it fully. I remember a woman, of unsurpassed beauty. My lover? I remember the Grail... in my hands it was! And there was the Darkness. A stain. I can't remember...
"The first thing I do remember clearly was being in the sky-realm. Tir-na Nog'th. It is very like Arcadia - the future and the past drift and mingle together like blood in the ocean. Then - I found the steps, and made my way here. this is indeed a strange place.
"Gerard is my friend - he allowed me to try the Pattern, he has helped me in my search - but I'm no closer to finding Arcadia today than I was when I arrived."
He wants to find out the truth about himself, and spends a lot of time in shadow searching for Arcadia and Osric. He is basically a nice person, friendly and curious, keen to fight the good fight, but a little mysterious too (he sometimes has flashbacks to weird events).
