Date: 2nd September 1996. Granny's Summer.

A group of Russian super heroes have started to work together in the past few months. The group includes Napalm, Akula, General Winter, Mother Bear and Molinya. The Guardians (An American Super hero team) have sent us a super hero starter pack including pagers etc, and some booklets of rather patronising advice on how to be a 'proper' (i.e. American-style) superhero team.

The group are:-

News on the 2nd :

In the North East district of the city, in the Losniy Ostrov, Baba Yaga wakes up in her chicken legged hut. She goes hunting for herbs and a couple walking nearby, alarmed at this hideously ugly mad seeming hag, phone the police. The police page the Super heroes.

After scrabbling around in the park for a while the hideous crone decides to fly over the city in her pastle and mortar to investigate the aircraft she has seen flying overhead. She sees the huge expanse of Moscow, and nearly crashes into a plane. She is confused and doesn't understand modern life, so she looks for a palace or something to talk to someone about things. She heads for the Parliament building (the White House).

The Super heroes all respond to their page and are informed by the police Superhuman Liasion Officer, Captain Giorgy Arturovitch Ostranko, that a mad old hag in a flying pestle and mortar appears to by descending on the Parliament and could we investigate please. We all agree.

Napalm, being the fastest, arrives first to see the hag on the roof of the Parliament building; Napalm keeps her distance from the hag. The rest of the group arrive soon after; Mother Bear stays at ground level for a while (attracting a bit a crowd as this huge bear sits on the pavement outside), then goes in and up in the lift.

The hag identifies herself as the mythological monster Baba Yaga who supposedly eats children and does many other nasty things. Molinya suggests arresting her but as we have no evidence of her eating children we cannot.

After much discussion it is decided to go back to the hags hut and see what she has there. Baba Yaga goes back to the hut in her pastle and mortar, and Napalm and Molinya fly with her, Molinya arcing through the air as bolts of lightning. The others go by Metro (Mother Bear in her civilian id, the others in costume). Akula signs autographs for the children of some American tourists who are also riding the Metro; General Winter is aloof.

Napalm and Molinya check out the hut. Its chicken legs are invisibly folded up underneath (Molinya lifts up the edge of the hut to look; it tries to shuffle off) and inside all the animals in hanging in their cages have long since died; little is left of them but mummified corpses. The stew in the pot is a burnt and mummified crust round the inside. Baba Yaga thinks she must have been asleep for a long time.

Napalm is given a clay bottle of vodka which she drinks two thirds of before offering it to Molinya who finishes it. The others arrive from the Shchelkovskaya Metro station, and are also offered drinks. Another cauldron of stew is pulled out of a cupboard obviously far too small to contain it, and offered around. The stew doesn't appear to be made of children, but who can really be sure? A second bottle of vodka is found and emptied rapidly and some stew is eaten, but not by everybody.

The group discuss what is to be done with Baba Yaga, given her power, possibly mythological status, and lack of knowledge of the modern world. Various plans for putting her up with people are put forward and discarded. Baba Yaga nearly causes a pile-up when she demonstrates her huts ability to hide behind (for example) lampposts right next to a road.

It is decided that Baba Yaga is in need of a bath (this is in fact true) so Mother Bear in her human form takes her to a nearby public bathhouse. The others (except Napalm) bathe then head for the bar. Molinya gives herself a good beating with a bunch of birch twigs while bathing, to open up the pores and enhance circulation. Yes, really.

Napalm is already at the bar and rapidly drinks all she can buy (or have bought for her). General Winter buys more drinks. Everyone drinks a lot while waiting for Mother Bear and Babayaga. They arrive just as the bar closes. Baba Yaga looks a lot cleaner (it won't last).

Eventually everyone bids each other goodbye. Napalm is taken home by Molinya.
