Napalm wakes up on the floor of Molinya's small, spartan and untidy apartment after having fallen out of bed some time during the night. Mother Bear and Akula wake up in their respective homes and prepare for their day at work. General Winter wakes up in his large house feeling the worse for drink but is pampered by his manservant/chauffer Adrik until he feels better. Molinya is woken by her alarm clock, she ignores Napalm on the floor and goes for a cold shower.
Molinya throws a bucket of water over Napalm and tells her that she is going to work, but she is welcome to food and drink in the cupboards. Molinya leaves for work. Napalm drys herself off and then eats everything she can find. She had already drunk all the alcohol in the place.
At police headquarters Molinya meets with Captain Ostranko briefly, then goes to forensics and sees the staff dressed in NBC suits doing an autopsy on the body of Matvey Beodyovitch Barsan. The possessions found on the body are a wallet, mobile phone, a gun (which has been locked away somewhere) in a shoulder holster, an American express card, nightclub membership cards, a metropass and some cash. It is finally decided that he died of a cocktail of skin agents. Molinya contacts Lieutnant Kulin, the Police's contact in the military for information on chemical weapons which could have been used to kill him. She also contacts Akula and General Winter, who with their military contacts might also be able to find out useful information.
From the autopsy it is discovered that the Mr Barsan was dead about an hour before being dumped in the river and he had been in the river for about an hour before being found. The body was found in the Serebryaniy Bor recreation area, so from where it was found it is thought that the body was dumped in somewhere around the Northern River Terminal.
Napalm leaves Molinya's flat and is watched suspiciously by one of the neighbours, an old Babushka. She wanders the streets smoking the pack of cigarettes she found in Molinya's flat. In an alley around the back of the GUM shopping arcade on Red Square she sees a homeless man being beaten up by some security guards and intervenes in her flaming form to help the man. One of the security guards is lightly toasted before they flee. She helps the man off to shelter.
Everyone else spends the day working. Akula investigates the Moscow State University research reactor from inside the coolant pipes.
After work Molinya goes off to look at the Northern Terminal, travelling by lightning teleportation. As she passes the Armed Forces Museum on Soviet Army Street she sees a number of people lurking on the roof of a nearby building, some kind of military archive she thinks (a place not open to the public, but also with fairly open access). Using her police radio she asks the others to assist her and for a squad car to be sent.
None of the rest of the group are very busy so all set out to join her.
Molinya goes into the building, she soon finds a security guard lying dead on the floor with a bullet hole between the eyes, and can smell chemicals and hear a buzzing sound. She recontacts the police making the request more urgent and asking for more police to assist.
Napalm flys into the area and feels she may be being watched from the rooftops of some nearby buildings. She goes to investigate and sees about fifteen men with assault weapons aiming at her. She blasts some of them with large amounts of fire and dodges the bullets the others fire; one of their guns explodes; several others are badly burned and incapacitated.
Inside the building Molinya arrives at a room with the door smashed in. She turns into her lightning elemental form and enters the room. Inside are four figures:
Molinya attacks the man with the guns, hitting him with a lightning bolt, but seems to have little effect on him. Despite being in lightning form she is hurt by an attack of multiple bolts of jagged black lightning fired by the man with the black energy crackling about his hand. As the man in robes says something in a language Molinya doesn't recognise she also develops a powerful headache and feels as if something is tearing at the inside of her mind.
Napalm continues to toast the people with guns and dodges their bullets. When they are all incapacitated or dead she puts out the fires she has started in the roof by drawing them to herself and absorbing them. She decides to fly over to investigate the roofs of the other buildings in the area, as she thinks there may be other figures lurking on them.
Akula, General Winter and Mother Bear arrive (Akula via the city water supply, General Winter by chauffer-driven limo and Mother Bear by the Metro) and enter the building. They head for the sounds of lightning.
Molinya arcs behind the man all in black and knocks him forward with a mighty punch. The buzzing sound rises in pitch and Molinya is stunned as some kind of sonic beam strikes her from behind; windows around the building shatter. The woman in red and black armour touches Molinya's arm and burning chemicals seep from her hand. Molinya begins to feel very weak.
Right on time, the others arrive. Mother Bear launches herself at the man with the guns and lands on top of him. Akula is attacked by the biohazard woman as he tried to envelop her in his watery body, and he staggers as her chemicals seep into him. General Winter ices the man with the darkness powers, and he is temporarily fixed to the nearby shelf.
Molinya leaves the area to try to recover. She blasts out of the building as a bolt of lightning and returns with a street light she has torn up. The man in the robes and the woman start to back away from the area of the combat. Flames start as (among other things) Molinya's lightning reacts with petrol or something similar which seems to have been poured about the place.
General Winter attacks the man with the darkness powers again but misses. The man frees himself from the ice which holds him and starts to leave after unsucessfully blasting General Winter. Mother Bear is having trouble keeping the man pinned down; he seems quite strong; he manages to push her off him enough to stab her.
Suddenly a pile of papers from one shelf falls on Akula for no apparent reason and start to absorb him, so he leaves the area. Again the buzzing sound increases and more windows break as a deafening painful shrieking sound fills the area. Akula sees that their source is some kind of insect-woman flying (on insect-like wings) in the room above the archive stacks who is making the noise, and tries to hit her but misses. Molinya then arrives back and unable to see anyone but the bug-woman, she swats it with the lamppost; the bug-woman flies into a wall.
On top of the building Napalm flys over to the next building. As she does a heat seeking missile is launched at her, she tries to dodge it, but it seems locked on to her. so she turns towards the building from which it was fired. She rains fire down on top of it and flys over it and behind the building. The missile homes on the fire she created rather than her, and explodes on top of the building taking out all the remaining men there. Napalm puts out the fires she started here too.
The man with the guns eventually levers himself out from under Mother Bear, inflicting several wounds as he does. Holding Mother Bear off with gunfire (changing clips in his guns almost faster than the eye can see), he flees the room and disappears through a doorway, slamming shut the metal service door behind him. Mother bear tries to break down the door and has some success; there seems to be something blocking the door from behind. Molinya follows her and stabs the lamppost through the door and whatever is behind it, thena arcs via the lamppost into the next room. It seems to be some kind of service room; a corridor leads off. After opening the door, she and Mother Bear carry on down the corridor, Mother Bear tracking the man by scent to make sure they are going the right way (they are). At the end, the corridor leads out into another service room; they see two manholes in the floor, both with their covers on.
Molinya opens one and is starting to go down it into the waste water tunnel below when she sees a box with numbers ticking down to zero. It is just below her.
Back in the other room General Winter freezes the bug creature (lying stunned on the floor) into a block of ice. He also puts out the fire that has started around him because of the chemicals fumes and Molinya arcing though it.
The timer on the box reaches 0:00:1 and Molinya decides to arc into it to try to destroy the thing. When she does so, it blows up.
Akula (who has just arrived) and Mother Bear start to dig Molinya out of the debris, which seems to have sealed the tunnel below quite effectively.
Napalm finishes putting out the fires and flys down the side of the archive building to the large gap that has appeared in the side of it since the bomb went off.
General Winter checks the bug creature - it is unconscious and sealed in ice - then goes to join the others...
