Events Between Parts 1 and 2

The flying carpet hovers overhead. Mother Bear runs at the robot faster than the guns can come round, and lands on the nose. She flips round and smashes some of the sleepers sensors.

Two MiG-51 fighter-bombers - sleek matte black forward-swept-wing aircraft - arrive overhead and fire four missiles each at the robot. The tail of the robot rises up over the body, and sleepers body tilts down at the front to raise the tail even higher.

General Winter and Napalm get Mirov to remove the protective shell from around them now the robot is out of the water. General Winter works on putting an ice platform under the robot to try to beach it; an icy snow-filled wind whips around the sleeper. Napalm notices the incoming missiles and keeps out of their way. They impact on the robot and cause some damage to the surface; craters which have penetrated the robot's hull. Some of the smaller guns on the robot turn on the MiG-51's and fire; one of the planes is destroyed in a ball of flame, and the other is damaged and flies away, descending and trailing smoke.

The massive tail-gun then fires a huge shell over the city and a massive impact is heard from somewhere towards the centre of Moscow. The sleeper begins to move forward again, towards the city.

Napalm sees the carpet which is still in the vicinity, keeping up with the sleeper, and flies up to see who is on it. Sirdar is the only one there. Napalm fires on him and he cries out in pain; she fires again and a black cloud starts to form on the carpet and two cries of pain are heard. The black cloud clears, and Black Dog has appeared on the carpet. There is a shout from the carpet in Sirdar's voice, and Napalm suddenly gets the same headache as before, but manages to keep going.

The sleeper begins to rear up to fire its tail-gun again.

Mother Bear leaps back onto the ring road, gets a car and tears it in half. She throws it at the tail gun but misses and the falling ball of crumpled metal knocks General Winter from the ice-pillar upon which he is standing into the water. She repeats this with the other half, with a similar lack of success.

Mirov slides up the tail as stream of some liquid-like stuff and most of him slides into the mouth of the tail-gun, blocking it just as it fires. As the gun fires it explodes and bits of gun and Mirov are blasted everywhere.

Napalm fires again at the carpet as Sirdar shouts again, and she starts to feel the headache leave and a pain start in her chest start. Black Dog fires a cluster of black lightning bolts at her which she dodges.

Inside the robot Akula can hear screams of pain from Molinya, and also cries in a mans voice. But he has found the power reactor and considers turning it off more important.

Mother Bear poses for a television news crew which happened to be on the ring road; they are filming the robot, Mother Bear, the fight between Napalm and the super villains on the carpet, and General Winters efforts.

Mother Bear moves off the bridge until she is on solid earth, then starts to bellow. After a minute or so, a white swirling mist rises up around her and a translucent spirit bear rises up from the mist. Mother Bear in the lead, the two bears run back, jump onto the back of the robot and start to destroy more guns, avoiding its gunfire as they do so.

Napalm flies back down to the robot, using it for cover to avoid Black Dog, and starts to fire on the guns again. She is hit by some bullets but is unaffected as the fire surrounding her vaporises them. However, shrapnel from near-misses by some of the bigger guns gets through, causing some flesh wounds.

Inside the sleeper, Akula hears a final scream from Molinya and then silence. He continues to examine the reactor, and discovers the best way to turn off the reactor (which seems to be a dirty, unshielded design made to put out a lot of power for a fairly short while, cooled by liquid sodium, which also turns the turbines to generate electrical power so the turbines can't be stopped without also draining all the reactor coolant, causing it to melt down) is to put in all the control rods; doing them one at a time will take far too long, but they appear to be controllable en masse from the control room. He heads for the control room to turn off the reactor.

Inside the control room he sees Molinya unconscious on the floor. Next to her is the body of WarWolf; he also seems to be unconscious, and has broken arms and legs. Poison is standing leaning on the wall of the room; there are some dents in her armour.

There is also a magic circle on the floor, vaguely like the one found inside the villains base previously, inside which are the control panels and two slumped figures in old Russian uniforms who seem to be restrained on metal couches. Akula gets a very eerie feeling from the room. Slipping quickly out in water form, Akula grabs the reactor shut off lever and hangs on to it. Poison attacks him by putting her hand through him and pouring large amounts of toxins into him. Hanging on like grim death, Akula manages to turn get all the control rods in, and turns off the reactor. Then he slumps into a puddle on the floor and escapes by passing down through the bullet holes in the floor, out of Poison's reach.

General Winter finishes the ice platform and is carried up in front of the robot by an ice pathway. Unfortunately, he is spotted by Black Dog who blasts him with a whip of black lightning through the chest, which he can feel draining his very life. He feels very bad.

The sleeper cleverly avoids the laboriously-constructed ice platform and pushes through the ring road bridge, which falls in fragments.

Akula goes for the battery reserve of the robot and on finding it, under the reactor, he starts to pull out the connectors.

General Winter starts to form ice onto the carpet, surrounding it with an intense ice storm. The whip of black lightning vanishes, and the carpet starts to drop to the ground. Napalm sees this and also sees that some of the guns are moving to fire on General Winter. She destroys them to protect him, taking some more shrapnel hits as she does so. The black swirling cloud appears on the carpet, and appears next to General Winter. Black Dog appears and hits the General very hard. He tries to freeze Black Dog but misses so he freezes himself and Black Dog into the same huge chunk of ice. The sleeper swings three guns towards the ice block which Napalm destroys. The black swirling cloud appears, then vanishes, leaving a Black-Dog-shaped hole in the ice block, and Black Dog is no-where to be seen.

The carpet lands heavily on the ground, and shatters. Napalm goes to investigate, but keeps out of hand-to-hand range. Sirdar stands up from the remains, covered in frost, staggering slightly and brandishing a black-bladed dagger. Napalm blasts him full in the face with intense fire. He falls over dead, most of the front of his head burnt off. A number of translucent white spirits (like the ones from 'Raider of the Lost Ark') rise form his dead body and swirl away into nothingness. Napalm sees that one of them is recognisable as Kreutz.

Mother Bear goes to one of the holes blasted through the top of sleepers armour by the MiG-51's earlier, and claws her way through the machinery inside to the control room. She sees Molinya, WarWolf, Poison and the two slumped figures. She attacks Poison, smashing her about the head and throwing her across the room into a wall; Poison is obviously stunned by this. Mother Bear investigates the controls and the two figures and finds they seem to be two dead WWII Russian soldiers, strapped into metal couches. She smashes the control panel.

Akula continues to disconnect the batteries and the robot is clearly starting to slow down. It is now fifty feet from the Leningradskoe Shosse trunk road, which runs by the Northern River Terminal and crosses the ship canal nearby.

General Winter investigates Sirdar and finds he is very dead having lost most of his head. He goes back to assist the spirit bear and Napalm in destroying guns.

Mother Bear exits the control room as Poison gets up and comes towards her. She leads Poison out of the robot. Once outside, Mother Bear tells the spirit Bear to attack Poison. As she comes out, the spirit Bear grabs Poison and is clearly unaffected by her chemical powers.

Akula pulls out the leads to the last battery and the sleeper grinds to a stop just a few feet from the Leningradskoe Shosse.

Mother Bear tells Poison to surrender. She refuses, shouting in thickly Pushtu-accented Russian "Russian scum, you will all die".

So the Spirit bear is told to crush her, and does.

Akula passes back up through the machinery into the control room and sees that there is a countdown going on one of the panels - a self destruct! He grabs Molinya and WarWolf and leaves via the hole made by Mother Bear. He tells everyone what is happening inside the robot. Poison is let go of as Akula, Mother Bear, the Spirit Bear and General Winter go back into the robot to attempt to disarm the self-distruct.

Poison gets up, so Napalm fires on her, burning through a large section of her armour on her side; her skin inside seems to have a noticeable oily sheen. She falls over and starts to leak toxins from the hole in the armour, so Napalm continues to blast her to burn off the chemicals.

Inside, Akula quickly follows the wires from the timer in water form, and finds that it seems to be set to detonate everything remaining in the sleepers arsenal - a lot of explosives. Some quick discussions ensue. Mother Bear reverts to human form and nearly keels over due to all the poisons still in the air; she quickly reverts to bear form. General Winter starts to encase the robot in ice from the inside - he doesn't have time to leave and encase the robot; an intense swirling ice storm starts up outside; the also freezes out the poisons in the air. Akula also finds out that the control panel is booby trapped. He follows the wires to the explosives and, with no time left pulls out one of the wires. It is luckily the right one. Everyone breathes a sign of relief.

The emergency services arrive outside the twenty metre thick coating of ice over the sleeper (which also encases the unconscious Poison and WarWolf), and set up road blocks. Napalm hands the unconscious Molinya over to the paramedics and tells them to help her. She then flies off into the city, towards the noticeable pillar of smoke rising from the impact site, to find out where the blast from the robot landed, and help out there.

In the control room, Akula arrives back, considerably smaller as parts of him keep freezing onto the icy surfaces inside the sleeper created by General Winter. Mother Bear decides to destroy the magic circle from the inside. She scrapes a claw across the circle, breaking it. The two uniformed corpses crumble to ashes and the spirit bear swirls away, as if being blown apart by a wind from the head on down, and vanishes. The eerie feeling that was felt in the control room vanishes at the same time...

The group exit the robot (General Winter makes a tunnel out through the ice) and find the unconscious bodies of Poison and WarWolf encased in ice on the top of the sleeper. They are freed and handed over to the police, who secure them and take them away, Poison in an inside-out NBC suit to protect others from her powers.

Napalm reaches the pillar of smoke rising across the city. It appears that the sleeper's shell has hit the Belarus Station, demolishing large parts of it, and setting it on fire. She hovers in the middle of the station and puts out all the fires by drawing all the flames in and absorbing them. Then she works at digging people from the rubble with her superhuman strength, and patching them up with the hi tech first aid kit she obtained from Vilma.

Captain Ostranko arrives, and is told what has happened. Bomb disposal teams are deployed inside the robot to make safe all its ammunition, and some nuclear safety people arrive to make safe and dismantle the reactor. Ostranko tells the heroes about the situation at Belarus station and they agree to go and assist.

As the group go to leave a black Zil limousine arrives and several men in black suits get out. They show Ostranko their ID's, and as they are doing so, several truck-loads of soldiers arrive. The police pack up and leave; Captain Ostranko does not look at all happy about this. The men identify themselves as being from Office 8 of Army Intelligence (General Winter has never heard of them). Mother Bear talks to one of the men, a Lukyan Matveyovich Svoyan, and tells him about the two bodies in the control room of the robot. Svoyan listens attentively.

The party leaves the sleeper. Adrik drives the group to Belarus Station and the rescue operation continues for some hours. Television crews arrive and film their rescue work. Mother Bear shifting rubble; Akula trickling through looking for survivors, Napalm treating the injured, General Winter using ice to prop the place up, clear debris and the like.

Eventually the worst is over; two hundred are dead, and thousands are injured, but all that could be done, has been, and it could have been much worse.

Mother Bear gives an interview to the television crews; it slips out that it wasn't the bad guys who activated the sleeper, but the heroes themselves. This goes down about as well as might be expected. Napalm finds an abandoned station shop which sells vodka so buys some (or at least leaves cash on the counter) to toast their success (that's her story, anyway). Akula tells the nearby film crew that Napalm needs alcohol to renew her flame powers.

Captain Ostranko arrives at the station, and asks for statements at some point. Mother Bear agrees. He tells us that Molinya and WarWolf are both suffering from toxic shock but will recover, and that WarWolf also has lots of broken bones. He doesn't seem too unhappy about this.

A small bat flies erratically down into the station and transforms into a much-reduced, and tired-looking Mirov. He says he feels very ill and accepts the vodka offered by Napalm.

Mother Bear offers Napalm a bed for the night which she readily accepts. Akula goes and recovers in the sleepers reactor, spending the night there.

The news headlines the next day :

Press opinion is divided; some praise the heroes for stopping the sleeper; others rail against them for having activated it without meaning to. However, the former predominate.

From the information found by the heroes in their various assaults on the Mafia, Mafioski activity in Moscow is severely set back, and two of the Chechen mobs put entirely out of business. The drug trade in Moscow also suffers severe damage (for a while, at least).

The bodies of Kreutz and the professor are found in abandoned warehouse a few days later.

Mother Bear's daughter goes back to working in the Hot Tamale Club as a hostess.

Mr Kurevka's body is found floating in the river a few days later; he seems to have been severely tortured before being killed.

The sleeper robot is cut up by the army and taken away for investigation...
