There were a number of non-generic non-player characters in this campaign segment. They are :

In all the character descriptions below, for powers 'F' means Frequent, 'V' means Versatile and 'M' means major; a 'x 4' or similar after one of the letters means that the power has that feature that many times (e.g. the 'M x 4' means the power is four times Major).


BLACK DOG (Chyernay Pyos)

Description :

Black Dog is a former KGB agent/assassin, but he was corrupt even then. He gained his powers accidentally as part of a KGB anti-DEMON operation in the 1980s, becoming the KGB's only super-agent.

He was laid off with the fall of communism and the disbanding of the KGB, and inevitably fell in with the Russian Mafia, becoming their only superhuman. He does not work for any one mafioski group, but is a mercenary, working for whoever pays the most

He wears a black trenchcoat, black fedora, black gloves and dark glasses, even at night. He is very pale skinned and gaunt-featured (his appearance has changed to this since he gained his powers) with claw-like fingernails, longer than normal canine teeth and slightly pointed ears.

He speaks Russian and a little English and German; he does not speak Chechen.

Powers and Skills
Darkness Powers (F, V x 2, M x 4)

This gives the following abilities:

  • Teleportation via darkness/shadows from one darkened area to another.
  • Generation of jagged daggers of black light (autofire black lightning bolts) from his hands, which can kill beings of up to Earth 6 with a single hit.
  • Generation of a whip of darkness (like a tentacle of black light) which can impale others and drain their life into him, healing his wounds and re-vitalising him. This kills beings with an Earth score of 3 or less within seconds; higher Earth beings dies more slowly. Victims can be pulled free of the whip of darkness, which stops the draining process.
  • Generation of swirling miasmic darkness from his hands, about himself, making him harder to see and harder to hit.
  • His powers are considerably weaker in the daylight than at night.

CRICKET

Description :

Cricket is a product of her parents being exposed to too much toxic waste, which resulted in her gaining a variety of insect-like characteristics.

She is small (4' tall) with fly-like features - iridescent compound eyes, small iridescent insect-like wings, skin which is faintly hairy and chitinous, and short spiky bristle-like hair. Despite this she is fairly optimistic and happy (party because she is too dim to realise quite what she is) with a strong streak of curiosity. She is basically being used by the others to their own ends without her really knowing the impact of what she is doing.

She is a Chechen and speaks only Chechen. She is illiterate.

This gives the following abilities (her wings must always be free to be able to do these things):
  • Flight at about 150MPH.
  • Generation of Sonic effects including:
    • Directed sonic blast with can kill or shatter beings or things of up to Earth 5 with a single direct hit; higher Earth beings or things take longer.
    • Shatter glass and the like in a radius about herself.
    • An area effect ear-splitting sonic NND-type attack centred on herself. This can stun being of up to Earth 5 in seconds; beings of higher Earth scores last longer.
    • A field of deafening noise.
    • A field of 'anti-sound', creating effective silence within it.
    • The nullification of other sonic attacks of lesser or equal power.
    • Limited sonar.

POISON (Otrava)

Real Name:Fatinah Samad

Description :

Female, and would be pretty if didn't look so care-worn; dark eyes, short black hair. Her skin is swarthy and has a faint oil slick type sheen. She continually generates a hideous mix of toxins from her skin, so she has to live in sealed quarters or her armoured containment suit to avoid contaminating everything around her.

Her containment suit/armour is black and red with a small backpack and a biohazard trefoil on the left breast.

Her powers came from a Russian chemical attack in Afghanistan which left the rest of her family (husband and children) dead. Now she hates Russians and sees herself as Allah's weapon of vengeance. She lived in the wilderness until recruited by the Mujaheddin to do their work.

She speaks Pushtu as native plus a little Chechen and Russian, but is illiterate and ill-educated.

Toxic Powers (F, V, M x 4)
This gives the following abilities :
  • Immunity to All Toxins
  • The ability to generate a large number of different toxins from her body. Unfortunately, her body is always generating toxins, so she has to live in sealed environment (like an NBC suit in reverse) to avoid contaminating her surroundings. She can consciously control what toxins are generated (airborne or touch only; skin agents, poisons which must be drunk or inhaled, etc. etc.) but she generates them all when asleep or unconscious. She can also generate clouds of toxins, or just secrete toxins from her hands, etc.
  • Her toxins fully affect beings with an Earth score of 3 or less within seconds; higher Earth scores take longer to be affected. This works better in confined spaces where toxins can build up.

SIRDAR (Master)

Description :

Thinnish, small, wiry build, spectacles. Short dark hair; solid black eyes. Wears black trousers and robe.

An evil magician. His use of black magic started as simply wanting to help his country, but now has sold, and learnt, too much, and is thoroughly evil at heart. He has no compunctions about killing, torturing and similar anti-social behaviour.

He disikes Poison's role (because of her sex), but puts up with her; they argue. Despite this and his low opinion of most of the rest of his group he is effectively the leader of the villains.

He speaks Pushtu as native but is also fluent in Arabic, English and Russian; he also speaks some Chechen.

Powers and Skills
Spirit Magic
This gives the following abilities :
  • He can see and communicate with ghosts and other spirits.
  • He can control them to do minor things instantly (with a word); major things require more lengthy binding, and perhaps summoning, rituals; it is easier to bind a spirit to do a single specific thing than as a multi-use servant. He can only send spirits a kilometre or so away from him; beyond that he loses control of them.
  • By killing a person in the right way (slowly and tortuously, of course) he can permanently bind their spirit to him, more fully and easily than with some random spirit he comes across. Because of this he always has a few bound spirits (mostly Russians) around him, giving a weird/nasty sensation to people with Water scores of five or more.
  • Note that Spirits are not very intelligent, and lose most of their memories upon death, except the things which drive ghosts etc. - this is a plot device so PC's can rescue victims and find out what they know rather than the bad guys simply killing their victims and interrogating their spirits.
  • The number of spirits he can keep in thrall at any one time depends on his Air score; currently he has ten spirits in thrall (Air - 2; so someone of below average Air cannot use this form of magic; the progression goes 1, 2, 3, 6, 10).

An intricately woven black rug, with black-on-black designs on its upper surface. The magic in it makes it very resistant to damage.

The Powers of Spirits
  • Search/spy as if they have Water 4; they can be sensed by beings with water 5+ as a feeling of being watched.
  • Induce emotions of pain/fear in low Earth types (Earth 3 or less).
  • Carry message flashes to Water 5+ types.
  • Manifest as ghosts (like those in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark').
  • Kill those of Earth 4 or less by squeezing their Hearts or other vital organs, or just cause pain and injury (to higher Earth types too).
  • Affect small objects (Strength = Fire 1; Accuracy = Fire 4), for poltergeist activity, attacks, more controlled movements (e.g. driving cars off cliffs), deflecting bullets from Sirdar as if Fire 4, and so on.
  • They can be bound into weapons to form :
    • Anti-Spirit Knives and Projectiles (which kill spirits, ghosts etc.).
    • Anti-Life Knives and Projectiles (which attack the living spirit so even flesh wounds become fatal for low Earth types).
    One weapon/projectile is one living spirit, and takes days to make. Both effects are resisted by the Earth score of the target. He has a knife with both anti-spirit and anti-life effects bound in.
 

WARWOLF (Voyna Volk)

Description :

Warwolf is handsome but harsh featured, with swarthy skin and dark eyes. He wears black suits, with 2 pistols in shoulder holsters plus knives and holdout weapons etc. concealed about his person.

He was a nasty Chechen criminal who was captured by the Soviet authorities and imprisoned in a Gulag, where he was the subject of medical experiments as part of (a) Soviet super-soldier programme. He did get powers (a super-athletic physique and became very fast and strong), but was kept imprisoned until the confusion of the break-up of the USSR, when he escaped and made his way back to Chechnya.

He worked as part of the revolution/secession movement there. For Russia's treatment of his country, and of him, he wants revenge. He has a number of contacts in the Russian Mafia, particularly the Chechen-run parts of it, which helps the villains when they are operating in Moscow.

He speaks Chechen as a native, and fluent but accented Russian.
